Airlines, airplane manufacturers and the auto industry are some that play major roles in that realm.
That's why the auto industry got its bailout years ago.
Not much different from farm subsidies.......if we let our agricultural industry die, where's our food going to come from?

Yes, another government subsidy, and one that most people don't complain about. But sure, let's have social workers investigate people on food stamps.

I don't know every person's story; I don't know who is the real deal and who is out to "scam" the system.
All those who are so sure that the "scammers" are rising in number-please post how many people receiving help have been interviewd by you; how many people have given you enough information about themselves for you to determine how unworthy they are to receive one crumb.
I knew a woman who was living in her Cadillac; homeless due to a nasty divorce and loss of job. It was all she had left to her name along with a suitcase of some clothes. I can only imagine some of you looking at her.
So somebody receives some help; who the hey are any of you to determine that person is unworthy, is lazy, is irresponsible, is a bad parent, is a "scammer", and on and on and on.
Where are all you FACTS and FIGURES regarding every person y'all are moaning about as you set your dinner table tonight; don't tell me you give and donate because people who denigrate the poor DO NOT DONATE so much as a crust of bread.
So some taxes help others; how much more would be in your paychecks if all of a sudden these programs went away? And what would you do with this great "windfall"?
Whether a person is "worthy" isn't up to anyone to decide.
And don't start with "I know for sure a neighbor is a scammer" stories because I never believe after-the-fact fiction just to try to prove a point.
Someday there will be a reckoning; and it doesn't have to be a religious event. You reap what you sow-even if sowing words, never mind inaction.
Be grateful for what you have; and mind your own darn business.
Nailed it!

FYI......How and to whom food stamps and other food assistance programs are distributed is largely a function of each state government, not just the federal government.
If you don't like what's happening in your state, direct your complaints and suggestions to your elected state and local officials, or the appropriate local agencies administering welfare programs.
