Good, fresh scallops, lobster, clams, oysters and crab are worth every penny. Yum! I would never buy seafood from qvc, though. Only fresh or from my local seafood shop.

OMG you guys (lol waiting for someone to tell me how offended they are by that phrase)!

I was mentioning to my niece that over the last couple of days QVC has had both salmon and scallops for sale (at exorbitant prices). She texted her sister (my namesake niece) who lives in Alaska and we will be receiving flash-frozen salmon and scallops in a week or two! And I've been told the Alaska scallops she's sent before are inches across and tall - humongous!

I absolutely loathe seafood. I know with Crab, shrimp, and lobster, part of it is the appearance.

I also hate the smell, and in some cases the texture. Just not a seafood person, at all🙃

I love scallops but they are not easy to find in my stores.  Some seafood is going the way of Abalone, one of my favorite foods.  You won't find it on menus anymore, along with wild-caught salmon (not farm raised with color added).  I won't buy that.

I've seen news reports that many times the less than honest will cut rounds out of stingrays and sell them as scallops, since the taste/texture is nearly the same as a scallop.

Unless you are either on the boat when they haul them out of the ocean or when the boat comes in to dock, imo you never really know what you are buying from the stores or restaurants. This is true with any kind of "fish" from the ocean. This has been a controversial subject in the food industry. As far as "fresh" seafood goes...most if not all of it has been previously frozen unless of course you were there when the boat came in and bought it fresh.

A good friend once told me, 'bay scallops-only eat bay scallops.'

Re: SEA SCALLOPS....

[ Edited ]

Scallops are my weakness.  I found a fishery in Alaska and that's where I get mine.  They are almost $30 per pound and worth every penny to me once or twice a year.  I also buy salmon and halibut from them.

Local grocery stores offer these seafood items.  Many are more expensive and others have been re-frozen, water added, etc, which change the flavor.

There are a lot of other expensive foods and products I can easily live without.  But I choose to splurge once or twice a year on good quality scallops.

I LOVE  the big sea scallops but the price is so expensive---I can buy scallop pieces from my local Haggen grocery store for around $9 a lb and they are the small pieces from the big ones. I think Costco has a good price for them too--usually around $19.99 a lb. They are very good. Believe  it or not, I have a recipe for a scallop dish that you put into a pressure cooker for just a couple minutes--- so good. One of Bob Wardens recipes..  I love all seafood and living in WA state, I have access to some really fresh, good seafood all the time.

Oh yum! So jealous! Two of my favorite types of seafood.

Scallops are wickedly expensive, but so worth it for a treat.
