I had a Roomba and it did a good job on the floor. I could not leave it alone because it would get "confused" under the table with so many legs and stay until you moved it. It would also get stuck at the edge of my sofa (my problem). Occasionally, it would get stuck on the corner of a rug...depends on the angle it approached the rug.
If I didn't have to bend over and pick it up when it got stuck, I would get another one!

Had several Roomba(iRobot) robots over the years and they all worked well. Each lasted a long time, but when prices went from the low-mid $100 range to the $300-$400-$500 range?
Went back to using the upright vacs once again. A shame that as computerized chips and other electronic parts cost little, prices rose over 100-200%. Reasonable prices I will pay for technology, but manual things I will do when any company and/or product is only about bottom line, zip for their customers.

I have never owned one, but my son has one and he likes it. He has a big, hairy dog and from what he says, this robot vacuum is a wonderful thing and was well worth the money. Not sure what brand it is.

@World Traveler wrote:Love mine. I have the iRobot brand and got it from QVC. Works very, very well. I just push a button, it does its thing and I do mine. Hasn't failed me yet.
I also have the iRobot version for mopping the floors. It has been exactly one year since I last vacuum or mopped a floor.
@World Traveler
I experienced some of the same with mine when I first got it with long-haired, pure-bred Persians. I learned to vacuum the room where the cat sort of lived most of the time and clean it and then vacuum the remainder of the house. It cannot hold a lot of fur and fuzz. It is a very small vacuum. It is really misunderstanding it to think it could. You probably need something like a Rainbow (which I have) for the rest of the house and the thorough cleaning 2-3 times a month and let the iRobot do the interim work.
@Nonametoday I think you have me mixed up with someone else. I did not refer to any problems with the iRobot.
@World Traveler. I did. I picked up the wrong "quote." Please forgive me. I deeply apologize.

For $400 plus tax and shipping, you better get out that broom! lol

DH bought a Roomba years ago, I believe he hoped our cat would ride it.
Joke was on him - at all hours of the night we'd wake up to it merrily vacuuming away once kitty learned how to turn it on. It did a pretty decent job, since it ran several times a day, but replacing the battery was expensive.

Hi I own a rhoomba, bought at Bed Bath and Byond, I love it and it does a great job. I too put it in a room and close the door, mainly because I'm on O2. and I don' know how it will do with the hose. Mine was a gift from my Son and DIL, and I looked at it for years, thinking I couldn't use it because my house is fully carpeted, but it works great.

I took the plunge and ordered. I figure the worst is that I will have to return it. I would like to just put it in a room and close the door. I just hope the dogs will not bark at it the whole time it is running like they do the regular vacuum.

That's hilarious!
Yesterday, my sister asked me what I thought about them, and I told her I'd try it but that my dog would eat it for breakfast!
