Re: Random Posts About Queen Elizabeth

I will miss her. Loved her sense of humor and her way of making a statement without saying a word. There was a show on PBS a while back about the crown jewels. It pointed out how she wore certain pieces of jewelry as a way to express her opinion about foreign dignitaries, and how she would lend certain pieces to relatives based on how she viewed their "place" in the family.

She was always there throughout my life. One thing that really strikes me is that she will be the last Queen for at least 3 generations. All Kings for as long as I will be around.

Re: Random Posts About Queen Elizabeth

I woke up at 2:30 this morning thinking of her and her family.  It is hard to believe this world is without her.  Last night I caught a glimpse of a photo back in the 1970's of my mom, her twin sisters, their mother and their grandmother on Mother's Day.  I realized looking at it there were other people who knew a world when she was Princess Elizabeth and there was a King of England.  For most of us this is just feels surreal to say King.

I will miss her and devotion to her family, subjects and country.

Re: Random Posts About Queen Elizabeth

Oh my gosh--Queen Elizabeth owned a house in Minneapolis just a few miles from where I live!

It is located on Cedar Lake--not one of the most popular city lakes because you cannot walk/run/bike arund the entire lake. But it does have a nude beach--maybe that was the draw.😄

Here is a picture of the house. I don't know when this picture was taken, but It looks rather shabby or maybe a better word would be outdated. The house was sold in 2015 for $1.65M.

@magicmoodz   Interesting, I wonder why it was purchased.  It doesn't fit her lifestyle.

@Goldengate8361 "I'm going to miss her generation. My dad is her age (96) and he is going strong as one of the increasingly few-left WWII veterans. That generation is so different from other generations in so many ways. The queen was one of many representations of that generation that is rapidly disappearing from our public worldview."

My mother is also of that generation.  She is 95 years old.  You are right about that generation being different.  They had fortitude and resilience.  I never heard my mother complain about how hard it was to raise children, work, etc.  She knew she had responsibilities and she just fulfilled them without question.

As is my dad at 96 and yes, still going strong mentally and physically. My siblings and I are always in awe!

Elizabeth was a beautiful woman as a young girl and a mature woman.  Just loved the grace she showed in public.

I did some research on the Minnesota house, and for years it was the official residence of the Canadian Consulate General;   the deed was in the Queen’s name.  As such, it had been exempt from property taxes.

It was last purchased by the Minnesota DOT Secretary,  putting it on the tax rolls.

She saved her ration coupons to buy her wedding dress. On the day of her wedding, her tiara snapped. It was patched together and you can see it slightly askew in her wedding photos.

Re: Random Posts About Queen Elizabeth

Random thought about Charles.

We were visiting  London in 1988 when I was pregnant with our 2nd child.  We wanted to cross the street, and I looked the wrong way when looking for oncoming traffic - as one from the US might do.  I saw nothing and started to step out into the street.  My husband put his arm out to stop me, as there was traffic coming.  I stepped back.  And sure enough, a black car drove by, and there was Prince Charles in the back seat.

To be certain it was him, we asked someone next to us and he confirmed that it was indeed Prince Charles in the car.

We gave our son the middle name of Charles.

I always loved the name anyway!.
