@Johnnyeager wrote:I did some research on the Minnesota house, and for years it was the official residence of the Canadian Consulate General; the deed was in the Queen’s name. As such, it had been exempt from property taxes.
It was last purchased by the Minnesota DOT Secretary, putting it on the tax rolls.
She never lived in or visited the house.
Well no wonder I never ran into her at the grocery store!
😄😄😄😄😄
I found a couple more pictures that don't make the house seem so dreary.

@Johnnyeager Financial decision - now it makes sense. Of course, we would not be expecting the Queen to live in this residence. Thanks for doing the research, I'm sure I was not the only one who was curious.

The country is going to have to start changing their money too.

An appreciation of Queen Elizabeth by Monica Hesse in today's Washington Post had this:
You might have read somewhere that as a teenager she served as a mechanic in World War II. She saved her wartime rations to pay for her wedding dress and thereby won the love of a nation that, in those dark days, needed a fairy tale but a practical one.

It's kind of ironic that Charles waited for years and years for his chance to become king. They say he's the most prepared monarch ever. He, himself, is now an old man. Then, in what seems like the blink of an eye, unexpectedly he is suddenly king! His head must be spinning; do you suppose he feels like he's been hit by a truck?

I bet he does feel that way. With his age his reign could be 2 years to 20+ with the longevity of his family genes. I miss her but am happy for him.

I certainly did not mean to imply the Queen was living among us lowbrows in Minneapolis. I just thought it was a fun fact to share on this thread about random musings.
Of course a quick Google search could have provided any and all the answers to your questions.

Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth. She rose above it all with strength, composure, kindness and a sense of humor. An iconic woman.

@magicmoodz Of course not...not to worry. I doubt any of our forum family ever thought that the Queen would be living there. But thanks for your concern. I took it as just a fun fact....just as you suggested.
