Re: RE: UKRAINE - BEST WAYS TO DONATE?

@Tinkrbl44   When contemplating any charitable donation, I first go to a website called CharityNavigator.  They rate charities based on the amount that actually goes to those you intend to receive it and not to administrative costs and pumped up salaries.  I wouldn't donate without it.

A local farm has a unique approach.  Evidently, the SUNFLOWER is the national flower of Ukraine.  Beautiful flower, right?  The farm is taking orders for packets of sunflower seeds.  One packet is $5.00.  The organization that will benefit from the proceeds is Razon (Together) Ukraine.  I read that they will not send the seeds immediately.  That makes sense.  Where I live, it is still too cold to plant annuals or seeds.  So, I expect to wait a few weeks for the seeds to arrive. The name of the farm is Sunhearth Flowers. The website is intuitive, if you are interested.

Why would anyone donate to a local church here ... rather than a charity that can actually do some good for Ukraine?   Although I assume they mean well, I'm not sure that would be a trustworthy or efficient option.

@Tinkrbl44

A lot of churches have Missionairies there and/or have established churches there so they live there and are local and know what people are experiencing and their needs...and they even know the families in the area

Yep, Charity Navigator is an EXCELLENT resource....We have a few animal shelters/organizations here and there's one where the Administrator makes $200,000 a year (can you imagine!) but they hardly get any donations after people see that on Charity Navigator and word gets arround, and you can see their support during the "Big Give Charity Drive"....all the rest exceed their goal except them....

Depends on the church. Mine is worldwide so my local donation does go to needs in other countries. There's also a leadership structure in place that includes those in the area which means they have first-hand knowledge of what's going on and what is needed. We also help irregardless of affiliation. We are so organized and efficient that we're usually one of the first ones actively assisting.

Saw where people are booking airbnb's in different areas of the country, (not going of course) so that the money goes directly to the owners. Airbnb is waving their costs.

I just donated to World Central Kitchen. This is the one started by chef Jose Andres.

They're feeding Ukranian families and refugees.

I will be donating to one or more of the animal rescues, too.

@GingerPeach

We also donated to World Central Kitchen, because I saw on numerous broadcasts on different channels videos of this group feeding Ukranian refugees.  I wanted to give to a group that is already "boots on the ground" helping people, not just planning.  We also gave to Catholic Relief Services for the same reason - they are there, helping right now.
