Re: Puerto Rico Donations

[ Edited ]

People will give as best as they can.  Between Harvey, Irma, and Maria I think some people are feeling overwhelmed watching all this devastation; feeling as though one hasn't done enough.

I know I feel I'm not doing enough..  We donated to many drives and helped sort items a few days ago at one organization.

I'm sure I am not alone in feeling a twinge of helplessness when I eat a good meal or drink clean water or sleep with a roof over my head.

Some feel that the gov* should handle everything and don't give a dime.  That's fine.

But I feel if you are going to complain that not enough is being done but turn your back on organizations then it's just a person who really doesn't care at all.

There are hard-hearted people in this world; we cannot save everyone as individuals but we can alleviate sorrow if our mind sets are as one.

Folks are folks; no matter where they live.

Perhaps MSNBC could make a donation. Rev. Al, Rachel, Chris, Joe & Mika could certainly assist financially for water.

@RetRN  Maybe they have.  MSNBC isn't the only outlet reporting the drinking water crisis, along with all the other problems going on in PR.

Should we list everyone from all outlets too and question how much $$ they are donating?

Personally, I just don't care anymore who gives what.  I care that the relief can get there and hopefully PR can be rebuilt.

I'm only responsible for what I can do.  The rest of all this "whose donation is better" is a nonsensical diversion into "which side of the pol* fence" is the better side and has nothing to do with really giving a care.

Y'all know this.

I watched the San Juan mayor's impassioned plea last night. She is physically and emotionally drained. Once again we have a Katrina-like situation but, as an island, Puerto Rico is in even more dire straits. I have donated quite a bit of money but it looks like I should be donating truck drivers. If massive relief and communication are not organized soon there will be disease, starvation, and death. Criticizing the politicians or Puerto Rico's infrastructure and financial situation is mean and meaningless. This is a humanitarian crisis and saving lives is all that anyone should be concerned about at present.

@RetRN

The donations aren't the problem.  Yesterday there were.TEN THOUSAND shipping crates on the ground containing food and water.  Supposedly boots were on the ground also,  but no one was opening the crates or delivering supplies.

Financial donations are not the problem at the moment.

This is in large part what is wrong with our country. While Puerto Rico is literally dying, people are still in the same old obsessive hate mode they've been living in for years.

I'm tired of it. The divisiveness is killing people.

PR needs new leadership.  It sounds like this SJ mayor just wants everything handed to her.  She needs to start leading and stop begging.  The mainland US will be helping, but it is not up to us to rebuild the whole island.  We do need to make sure that the people have food, water and medical help.
