Hi @Poodlepet2

I watched the news a long time this morning, it's horrendous there, and so far, none of our troops are to be seen.

Sanjay Gupta was helping a diabetic woman crying out in pain from an infection she had just got.  She has no insulin and will die unless there is a miracle.

I saw that this morning, that place is a mess there.

@Noel7, there are 7200 troops there-we need more-but the real problem seems to be gas....and collapsed bridges, roads etc...it's frightening because I don't feel as if we are handling this well at all.....I really don't.

Puerto Rico is such an important part of our Nation fabric....my heart breaks-this could be any one of our states or regions...be it rock slides, melting glaciers, sink holes...volcanoes-one erupting in Bali as we speak......it's all horrendous.

Yep...we always knew nuclear war was a possibility, but who would do that? Why? This post will probably be removed because I said that...

This is a crazy world we live in, but I won't give up hope that we can change.....

They have no help, no food or water, no communication, only 5% power, no medical supplies.

No insulin, no dialysis, no milk for the babies.

No food, water, shelter, medicine since landfall. Sanitation and disease.

I cannot even begin to imagine the devastation our citizens are experiencing.

Several interviewed are saying it's worse than Katrina.  The mayor came out again, begging for help for her people.  On the verge of tears, saying, "We're dying here, it will be genocide."  Heartbreaking.

We don't know what the hold up is, why people in PR still haven't received life saving food, water and medicine.

I hope those suffering make it through the night and get what they need first thing tomorrow.

Larry Hogan — Governor of Maryland

“Gov. Larry Hogan is sending a 26-member unit of the Maryland National Guard to Puerto Rico to aid in the recovery from Hurricane Maria.

Hogan said the effort stems from a call from Ricardo Rossello, governor of Puerto Rico, which has been without basics including power and sufficient clean water since the fierce hurricane devastated the island Sept. 20.

The Maryland National Guard’s 29th Combat Aviation Brigade will deploy for potentially 60 days with two systems that can purify 1,200 gallons of water per hour for drinking, cooking and hygiene...

Workers from around Maryland, spared the effects of recent hurricanes, also are aiding residents of Florida and have completed five missions to that state and Texas following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.”

Re: Puerto Rico Donations

[ Edited ]

For Puerto RIco DH and I donated to You caring the website that's on Ellen's tv show page and Ricky Martins page.. Ricky Martin was on her show and talked about it and Leo DiCaprio gave there. J Lo and Marc Anthony and all started a fund too and its on their websites. I trust them all.

For the other 2 hurricanes in FL and TX we gave when they had the telethon on tv. That charity is hand in hand and they help people and animal's, all kinds of charities the money goes to.

Lastly my friends parents and sister live in Puerto Rico They finally got ahold of a ham radio and finally were able to call their family in the states. My friends dad is bedridden and very ill (before the storm) They need water, gas, and they have no cash left and the atm wasnt working due to no electric (that was yesterday). Of course they have no electric and are running out of food. They are not in a major city and feel desserted as they have seen no help at all. The only good thing is their home held up in the hurricane. I feel so bad, it is heartbreaking. My friend is a nervous wreck worrying, and wants to go there, but was advised to wait a month because she was told she could get stranded there.

@Shorty2U, I have been following this closely. What I don't understand is that they are showing all of these containers full of supplies...but people can't get to work to distribute them and then to compound the problem, there is a lack of fuel...

To make matters worse, Puerto Rico has mountains and hilly terrain, so roads have been washed out and trees are all over.

People here in Florida were screaming about how long it was taking to have power restored, but between trees being down-and flooding that's STILL going on, it has taken a monumental effort for the work force to clear debris....and this is the continental US.

I absolutely think we need more reservists on the ground and someway to get fuel to the interior parts of the island.

Last night, Sanjay Gupta said that as horrendous as the Haiti earthquake was, supplies and help arrived faster.

I am hoping the Powers that Be listen to General Honore.

I just can't buy the idea that because it's an island, that in and of itself is impeding progress. If that's the case, we really need to take a step back and review disaster plans for each and every state and geographic location...

Hugs,
