Re: Problems with your car due to discounted gas

I was warned about the practice of "cheapening the gas" years ago.  I don't drive out of my way for $1.00 savings which seems counter productive.

Here, we're fortunate to have a grocery store that became a small chain in NC and SC.  They give gas points on groceries, offer 6 bottles of wine at 10% off and have many specials.  I get my gas there.  I am passing one of 3 or within tenths of a mile at all times.

What do you consider discounted gas stations? I have two in my neighborhood that sell cheaper than the big name stations. I always go there, and never had an issue. Now I'm wondering should I be concerned?

Interesting. QT and RaceTrac are very popular stations in the Atlanta area.  They aren't considered discount or off brand.  They are mainstream gas stations.

@gidgetgh  I so agree with your Post concerning QT and Race Trac in the Atlanta area. When people talk about discount gas, are they talking about 2 and 3 cents per gallon?

Re: Problems with your car due to discounted gas

This sounds like a local problem. Your town should clean up those bad gas stations.

Don't you have any regulations about this? Or are they not being enforced? I'm surprised any town would allow faulty and harmful gasoline to be sold on an ongoing basis, regardless of any discount. Yikes.

I live in California.  There is no discount gas.  There are like a terrible Nernst I think, but they are maybe 3 cents less.  At least near Silicon Valley.  There are stations near feeways and prime areas that charge more.  But I go to a 76 usually here in town and they are good as any

I'm still wondering what's discounted gas $1.00 or $2.00 off per gallon? Now, That's discounted gas.

I am in California , near Silicon Valley....I don't believe we have discounted gas here. There are cheap stations, here and there...but it is only  couple cents lower.  If that.  The tax alone on our gas is highest in nation, over 52 cents.  I think where I live Costco might have the cheapest gas, but I have no idea how good, or bad it is.   The line is always a mile long.

California legislators are trying to provide relief to drivers facing $6 prices. On Thursday, representatives announced a plan to give every Californian $400 in the form of a gas tax rebate. People don’t have to own or lease a vehicle to qualify.

The $9 billion proposal would be funded by the state's current budget surplus. Everyone, regardless of income, will qualify for the $400 rebate as long as they pay taxes.

A competing proposal to suspend the state's 51-cent gas tax for six months failed to pass on Monday.

We don't have discount gas places here.  We just have regular gas stations, there might be a few pennies per gal difference in price but no one has discount gas.  But I wouldn't purchase it if they did!

Re: Problems with your car due to discounted gas

The average price for gas here where I am in Georgia is $4.16 per gallon and that includes QT and Race Track. No discount gas here.
