There are things about Charles based on what I've read, and really, that's all any of us can go on... that I like and respect. There are also things about him that I truly don't... While I'd agree the whole marriage to Diana should've been better handled and far better managed, for better or worse, it's now in the history books... As for Diana, while I, along with many others, valued her far more than I do most of the 'royals', it's probably also true that she should have realized, and perhaps she did and just ultimately decided not to accept it as a permanent arrangement, that her marriage to Charles was a business deal, a marriage of convenience and not a love match. Had she done so, it's entirely possible she would have been able, within reason, to go her own way, doing pretty much as she wanted, and he would have done the same.

I'm not going to criticize him for that.  Not until I try somthing like that and see how it works out for me. . . I in many ways feel sorry for him.  He will not get or even have a chance to live up to his inheritance until he is too old to do it

I remember the publisher of a local paper forced his son to retire when he got to I think 70, and then the old guy lived to something ike 104.  Now what message did he always send the poor kid?  You're incompetent. . . 

Of course in Charles' case, it's the law not just what his mother wants.

She was pretty young and idealistic, so unless all their interactions took place at a bargaining table, I'm not sure "she should have realized" was even possible.  

Charles must have done some "wooing" and poor Diana fell for it.   Maybe he actually did try to give it a go.   Unfortunately, she was in the dark about the specifics of the whole Camilla thing.   I've read that just before the wedding she learned that the other woman was still in Charles' life,  and wanted out .... and was told it's too late, your faces are already on the tea towels ... souveniers.    Ugh.

If Prince Charles inherited the longevity gene, and lives as long as his grandmother and his mom, well, Charles could be around for another 30 years!

The really great thing about his marriage to Diana is that it gave the country William.  I think he will be a very good King.

Can someone explain just how is Camilla a workhorse for the throne?

Seems it has longevity long before she was cheating with Charles and didn't add much to bring about change except having the mistress be out of hiding.

Charles married someone else and didn't have the guts to stand up to his mother, so Camilla should have bowed out. Charles is not much of  a man.

Yes, in today's world it seems so simple. He was in a very unique situation in a time that was not as accepting as today. They ALL did things that they probably would not do in 2017. I give him compassion as he really does try to do a job he may not be well suited for but because of birth is forced to do.
