Whether it's fast food or slow food (whatever that is), eating out is much more expensive than eating at home - unless you waste huge quantities of what you buy to cook/eat.

Some years ago before I became a Florida resident, the real estate taxes on my condo skyrocketed as prices went out of control - by the time the spiral ended my taxes had gone up just over $2300 - on a very modest 2 bedroom place. The final year the uptick was $1300 and I decided I had to find a way to pay that without dipping into long-term savings. Because I was living alone, it was way too easy for me to stop for lunch or dinner on my way home from an activity or to head out to breakfast on days I had nothing scheduled.

I cut my eating out as well as my takeout to those times I had a specific plan with a friend. OMG! If I'd been tracking my spending more carefully, I would have changed habits much sooner. That year I saved all the money I needed to pay that tax and lost pounds to boot! Winner all the way. And I still eat out pretty much only when I plan with friends.

You've got to be kidding! $7.55 for "2 piece spicy meal which came with a small drink and a biscuit, and a small coleslaw on the side".

If were any less expensive I'd suspect they were frying rats and selling them. Cheap food!

It was $7.55!!!!!

I think that's pretty much for what she got. At one of my local fast food places, I can get 4 large chicken tenders or 4 large pieces of fish, french fries, cole slaw, and 2 big hush puppies, along with dipping sauce, for $7.50 - I provide my drink at home. It's really good food, and I can easily make two meals out of it (it's way too much for one meal for me). That's only about $3.75 per meal - can't get much cheaper and they're not frying rats!{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I rarely get fast food anymore, but it's too hot to cook, so I went to Popeyes Chicken.

Is this what the prices are like at other fast food places, or just Popeyes?

The last time I had fast food was a chicken sandwich at Chik-fil-a in April and I don't remember being surprised by the price...

Anyone know the answer?

I think you got a deal, but then, I live in CA and you should see what we pay for anything, unbelievable!

I guess I was comparing it to Wegmans $6 meals. I DO get them sometimes when I'm eating alone.

Wegmans meals include a meat and two large sides of your choice (veggies or salads). Their rotisserie chickens are $5...for another $2.50 I can get their hot Italian bread and a veggie. There are also a lot of food trucks that park in my neighborhood around dinner. You can get a HUGE burrito with gourmet accompaniments for $7 - enough to feed two people very well.

I guess I was comparing Popeyes with Wegmans. Popeyes chicken WAS very good - better than I ever remember KFC tasting.

I'll have to look . . . next time I drive by a Popeye's, I like their spicy chicken and I DO NOT ever cook fried chicken at home . . . I don't like to cook stuff that splatters or pops me with hot grease . . . and seems like last time I noticed they had an 8 piece or 10 piece chicken, regular or spicy, 4 biscuits and maybe 1 side . . . we'd usually get Dirty Rice or Red Beans & Rice . . . back when we use to live closer to a Popeye's location . . . and this was a month or two ago for for 10.99 or 11.99 something like that . . . vs. 19.99 at KFC for basically same thing, chicken, biscuits and one side. But individual selections are always higher vs. "meals" or family sized selections.

Absolutely--my son worked there when he was a teenager! Still tastes the same, just costs more! Maybe things are cheaper in the south? Wink

I'm very suspicious of fast food and their profit margin. That's my concern. I don't eat this kind of food due to corporations putting profit ahead of quality. I've heard and read so many 'horror' stories about this. Good luckSmiley Happy
