Some are adding wood fiber to burgers to bring down prices... Perhaps that would be cheaper than Popeyes.

If we eat fast food it usually is Carl Jrs. because it is close. I always get coupons from them There are four of us and if two of us eat two Famous Stars (coupon 2/$3) and two bacon burgers (2/$4), Total=around $8. In addition, they give free senior drinks, and I get one for myself. Not bad for four people (everything else-chips, drinks are at home). Wouldn't pay if one doesn't have coupons though. We also enjoy Von's (Safeway) deli pizza. It is a huge pizza -feeds 4 hungry adults-for around $8-9. Of course, you have to cook it but it only takes about 15 minutes. If I go to McD on my own, I get the cheeseburger mini meal for about $3.50. Perfect for me. Taco Bell has gone up. Del Taco is cheaper but IMO not as good. Wendy's is high also, but if you get a $1 burger, a baked potato, it's pretty good. Also our Wendy's has free senior drinks.

One of the best deals we have found is at the WalMart Neighborhood Market by the deli. Big individual salads for 3.98....they have several kinds and they all have meats, cheeses, salad dressing, and veggies. Big enough for 2 meals for me bit DH eats one by himself for lunch many days...I cant buy the ingredients for $3.98 to make one salad.

Costco's food court probably is the cheapest place if you have one in your town.

I thought people ate fast food because they couldn't afford real food.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

However, I never bought into that theory that some swear as fact. I'd rather eat an organic apple or banana instead of what the OP ordered for lunch.

I rarely eat any fast food, but it was 3 in the afternoon, I hadn't had lunch and I decided to try Popeyes - my second time there in 2 years - I went when it opened to see what all the lines were about.

Today was my first day in training to sell health insurance.

The BC/BS cafeteria was really interesting. The healthier food was subsidized. A salad with chicken and veggies cost $3 for a huge bowl. A hamburger and fries was $6. A grilled chicken sandwich with veggies on the side was $4.

Even the seasonal workers like I am can work out in the company gym. The cost is $15 a month deducted from your paycheck, but of you work out 8 times a month, it's free.

They also have a FitBit walking plan where you can get gift certificates for fresh fruit and veggies...I'll be finding out more about that later!

Selling OC really will pay off well, I guess.

For the health insurance members who sign up - yes it will!

We've given up on fast food. The quality is always disappointing and the price is prohibitive. The only thing that still interests me? Our local independent pizza places.

Must be another sign of old age, but I swear I remember there was a time that fast food tasted really good. Carl's Jr., Chicken Delight, Jack in the Box, McDonald's, Wendy's, and dozens of regional places.

When I was in elementary school my mother would occasionally give me money and I'd walk to the McDonald's on Clark Street in Chicago and buy a burger, fries, and a soda. I can't remember now if I'd get an apple pie, too, but I do remember it all cost like $1.06.

God, I'm old.

ETA:

I'm really old! It was a Filet-O-Fish I'd order and they always cost more -- and it still was $1.06!

When I worked at McDonalds in high school, a Filet o Fish was only 75 cents....now, unless it's a Friday during Lent, I think they are about $2.95!!!!!!!!

A single filet o fish was 4.95 buy itself here last time I bought one, over a year ago. This and the tacos were at joints in the burbs of Seattle, not the city proper.

I was at McD's today for a bunch of cheapo double cheeseburgers, and the Filet O Fish was $2.99. Seattle must have some scary prices.

Sam's Club is the same way.
