Unfortunately, with that sort of thing, you don't have to click on anything. Just opening up the thread could cause your computer to be infected if you are not properly protected.

Not everyone will read that thread and see the warning. Starting a separate thread with the topic in the title will reach more posters.

It's a very good *general* warning/reminder. The OP wasn't trying lay blame on anyone.

Yorkie - I've been trying to tell you six ways to Sunday that I was not trying to blame you, or anybody else, for the malware.

Truth be told, I don't even know how many graphics, and posted by whom, were in the thread. As soon as I opened that thread earlier this morning I got the warning and got the heck out of there. I didn't feel comfortable sticking around and posting to it. Maybe I should have but all I knew was that SOMETHING in that thread had malware imbedded in it and nobody wants to be there when they have been warned.

All I was trying to do was to warn people because I know there are a lot of people here who do not use proper computer protection because I see so many who post about their computers getting viruses and malware all the time.

So, that's that. I just wanted to re-clarify myself and also explain why I didn't post in that thread.

Thank you for the warning/reminder, cb. This DID need a separate thread as many people don't bother to read all of the posts before clicking on links.

ITA about the excess of graphics.

I enjoy a few, but some posters go way overboard with them, IMO. It becomes tiresome trying to read & navigate around all of them.

A few years ago I had a terrible time with my computer. I had to have it cleaned up professionally. The tech asked if I visited websites where they allowed gifs(?). I said a forum I participated on allowed them. He said they are killers, particularly the animated ones. Even the best security system isn't always enough.

My Dell technician says he can't emphasize it enough for me not to go to links when they appear here.......just not a good idea.

It might be a good idea for the Webbie to delete those posts where there are links for us to go to......

I don't particularly care for all the graphics, especially the animated ones. A few are okay, but then they get re-quoted and it's hard to read and clutters up the thread.

Some posters only post graphics, it seems. I ignore them.

IF you got a malware warning, it didn't come from what I posted.

Yorkie, she wasn't blaming you, in fact she made a point of saying that.

None of us can ever be sure that what we post doesn't have malware. CB knows a lot about computers, I'm sure she has the best security system.

The system I had before this one used to give me the same warning every so often about something I linked to.

It's not the links though. We're talking about photos and moving gifs embedded with malware. They can be worse than links because all you do is open the thread and BAM! they get your computer.
