That said, I got tired of last minute invites when my married friends suddenly found themselves alone because their spouse was working late or decided to golf that day. I was getting to be a convenient friend more than a friend so I no longer accept these offers.

Snowpuppy, ITA with you! I have a friend who always waits until the last minute to invite me to do something. After agreeing to go with this person on several occasions, I started to feel like perhaps I was simply the "person of last resort" to ask. You know, kind of like there is no one else available, or nothing else better to do, so they might as well ask me. Sometimes I will go out on the spur of the moment, but when it becomes habitual I start to question the invitation.

To the OP, I just wanted to add that I'm exactly the same way as you. When I am enjoying a "pajama day" at home I'm not in the mood to rush around and go somewhere unplanned. I would have done as you and declined.

Your lucky she didn't just show up on your front porch....phone calls you can ignore....but not someone face to face....lol...
I have been known to throw on my jacket and go for a spur of the moment call...but I much prefer a little planning...

I would politely decline. She is not a close friend and even a last minute invitation by anyone would be declined by me.

You'll miss some great times with that attitude.

A friend of mine always did this. Always looking for someone to run around with her. She had her usual set of friends she'd play with - they liked to drink and go dancing, which was not me.
Whenever she called I always knew her other friends were not available meaning I was her last chance but she would NEVER accept no as an answer. So, if I saw it was her on caller ID, if I didn't mind going out I'd meet her or, because she didn't understand the word NO, I'd lie. If I didn't want to go, I'd say I was going to my sisters or already had plans or was sick. Post is in the past tense bc she died about 10 years ago. She never let any grass grow under her feet!

If you continue to turn people down...don't worry - they will eventually stop calling.
Then you'll have a NEW problem!
