Re: Package stolen, I think

[ Edited ]

Don't buy that ppl have been doing the job for 20 years and don't make mistakes.  Yesterday someone tried to deliver a package to me two times in the same day.  After attempting to deliver in the morning he returned a few hours later.  I live in an apt complex and my building number is 3100 and the building across the parking lot has the building number 3001, (that's kind of stupid) so the same number combos create confusion for delivery folks.

He returned 5 hours later and I again told him I didn't change my name in the last few hours and it was STILL not me but the guy had no reasoning skills.  I told him to go to the sales office and they should be able to cross reference the name with someone living in the apartment complex.  He was very apologetic but seemed agitated that I'd not just sign for the package and make it my problem to find it's rightful owner.

@MercysMom, has your package been received yet?  We just experienced this same story.  I placed an order and received notification it had been shipped via FedEx.  I signed up for progress notifications, and on the last day received an Email from USPS saying our package had been delivered and was waiting in our mailbox.

A package was indeed there.  Not our name.  Not our address.  Not our tracking number. This was on the late afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 31. The post office was already closed, and, with the holiday weekend, would remain so until Tuesday, January 3.  So I sent the USPS a detailed Email, and gave them both tracking numbers, ours and that of the package we received in error.

I found the addressee in the phone book and it turned out to be a house two blocks over, we share the same house numbers.  My hope was we received each other's packages, and would make a simple exchange; however, he was empty handed when Mr. Z came to retrieve his package.

On Monday, Jan. 2, a federal holiday with no mail delivery, our package appeared in our mail box.  We can only surmise an honest neighbor received it and brought it to us.

A representative from the USPS called on Wednesday, Jan. 4.  In a bored, monotone voice she told me, "That tracking number is not ours, so we have no way to trace it."  ?!?

Had the honest neighbor turned out to be dishonest, would we have been on the losing end?  What would have been our recourse?  Or, would we have had recourse?

@MercysMom  I would be interested in hearing how your situation was resolved.  I sincerely hope you have an honest neighbor, too.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

When we go up north my CPAP provider will not send my supplies to my PO box - even though it is fine with the post office to get packages. So I put in a friend's address and Lincare invaribly messes it up and it goes to Lord only knows where. Some times they deliver it to my house in Florida anyway - despite that they were told not to send it here. In the end it is usually found via the tracker UPS puts on the package and then we have to go to where ever it is and get it or we have to have UPS pick it up and return it to the provider - Lincare- and I have to reorder and start the process all over again.

In early November I ordered a laptop for my disabled brother.  He lives in a very rural area of a small town.  There are only four residences on his 5 mile long road, each home about a mile apart.

I carefully watched the tracking information and knew when the package was to be delivered to him, so I called him when it showed "delivered."  He said it was not on his front porch, but  he said that he had seen the Fed Ex truck go flying past his house.  He figured they took the package to the next neighbor down the road, as he said that had happened before, and the neighbor was nice enough to drive the package  up to my brother's house.

When I called Fed Ex about it, they asked me if my brother could go down to that house (about a mile away) and see if it was left there.  I told them again (for the 2nd time in the conversation) that he was disabled and would have to crawl there!!

I was shocked that they didn't seem too concerned about it!  It was sort of like "oh well"   !!!

So, my brother waited in his wheelchair out on the road until a car came by, and he asked that person to drive him to the neighbor's house to see if his package was there, and it was!  It was sitting on that neighbor's porch, about a mile from my brother's house!

I was glad he was able to locate it, and so was he!

@123SuzyQ123

After reading your post, I was appalled at Fed Ex's lack of concern and follow up action, especially considering your brother is disabled and the value of the item.    I am very patient, understanding  but this totally angered me.   It is their job to deliver the package to the proper address with no ifs and or buts and no back talk.

I would have insisted that they immediately make arrangements to correct the delivery.  I wouldn't care if the driver had to back track 20 miles to do so.   Knowing that probably would not have occurred in a timely manner,  I understand why your brother decided to resolve the situation.

@Allegheny   Thank you for your post.  I agree.  It really did anger me, too.

I guess if the driver had just finished his long day, he was eager to get home that day.  I have to put a positive spin on it, I guess!  Thank you.

I'm also in the "delivered to the wrong address" bucket. I've had this happen, as well. At my previous apartment complex, all packages went to the apartment office and were picked up there. Someone in the office also signed for all the UPS items. Once I had a package marked as delivered, but no one could find it in the office. When I checked with UPS, they had a signature on file, but it didn't belong to anyone who worked at the apartment complex. They delivered it to the wrong place.

At my new place, packages from USPS go to the main office, but the UPS drivers deliver them to our front doors. I've received packages for the complex down the street. When I do, I call UPS to come get it and redeliver, but by the time I do that, the person will have already received the "delivered" notification from UPS and started the missing package process.

Once I reported a package missing (I'm sure it went to the wrong address) and the company sent out a replacement right away. I got the replacement 2 days later. Two weeks later, I got an identical package - the original had finally shown up.

Something similar happened to me this week. Ordered something from Nordstrom 30 Dec..  Shipped out, that was the last I heard about it, no delivery, nothing. I even called Nordstrom 3 times to see if they could trace the package. Nordies couldn't track it.

Well there goes $150.00 or so I thought.

I take a daily walk, usually I don't look at the back door to my house, but today I walked around the back way to my house, well low and behold, my box was on the back porch. Have no idea how long it was there but at least i got the box.

You want to hear something really crazy about a shipping thing?

I recently ordered 10 boxes of an antihistimine/decongestant.  I take one tablet each night to help me with upper respiratory issues that get in the way of sleep.

I ordered 10 boxes of these from walmart.com because it's the best price and they don't seem to have them in the local store anymore.  That way, I have 240 days worth and don't need to worry about them for a while.  Been doing it that way for years.

Today I get my box and I'm glad I don't have to watch for tht anymore.   I open the box and there is ONE box of them in there.  Now, this is a pretty small little box of tablets.  All ten boxes of them could have fit in there, so I didn't think anything of it until I opened the shipping box and found just one box inside.

So I thought, ah crud I'm going to have to deal with this.  I go onto my account at the website and what bit of crazy did I find?  They shipped these ten boxes in ten separate shipping boxes with ten separate tracking numbers!  What the heck??

The size of this box is smaller than this posting box that I am posting in right now. and about half an inch thick.
