Re: PROBLEM WITH DRINKING A LOT OF WATER

Lots of info here....as always a doctors advice is the best..

that being said, when I turned 60, my urulogist told me the best thing elder folks can do regards water...

upon first waking up, before eating anything or coffee...drink as many 8 oz glasses of warm tap water as you can. this will go a long way towards your daily requirements of water, and it helps the body in so many other ways. Also prevents night trips as you get your water early.

then during the day, water with meals will give you your daily requiremnt.

As a caution, my brother in law always said water made him nautious, he drank only pop or coffee.

He ended up with blood clots in his legs from his ankel to his thigh..too much sodium...so keep that in mind.

Re: PROBLEM WITH DRINKING A LOT OF WATER

I just cut back on the water.  I drink one bottle most of the day.  I stop usually in the evening.  I don't have that problem of waking up.  I get up early though.  Usually around 5:30 AM.

Re: PROBLEM WITH DRINKING A LOT OF WATER

I wish I knew the answer.   I go to bed btwn 10:30 and 11pm.  I drink 3.5 to 4 bottles of water a day but I slow it down after 7pm.

Still, I have to get up around midnight, then usually around 3am, then again by 5am.  Each time I am up I take a small sip from my bottle when I go back to bed, because I feel the need to do so.  But it's not even taking a full drink, just maybe a tsp of water in a sip at the most.

I really don't think I'm drinking too much at all and the part after around 7pm I probably only drink half a bottle.  I couldn't stop completely as I definitely would feel thirst and dry mouth/throat.

I've chalked it up to being an old person.

Re: PROBLEM WITH DRINKING A LOT OF WATER

I drink on glass of water with dinner and in bed and asleep by 10, I usually go around 2 and 4 but some times I go many times after 5 am, I have started taking 2 mg of valium around 4 which lets me sleep with out potty breaks until 7 30. I am seeing the urologist next week. I do not like using the valium but the OAB meds give me other issues

Re: PROBLEM WITH DRINKING A LOT OF WATER

[ Edited ]

I drink 100oz of water a day in addition to a cup of coffee in the morning.  When I first started drinking that much, I felt like I was in and out of the restroom all day.  But my body adjusted and that stopped.

As long as I don't drink past 9:00 p.m. I don't get up in the middle of the night for that reason.

All the body needs is 8 glasses which = 64 oz. Remember any other things you drink during the day, like juice, tea, coffee (adds water too).  You can drink too much water too @Lipstickdiva

@gertrudecloset , my doctor advised me to drink 100oz of water a day.  I only drink plain water besides the cup of coffee.  I never drink tea, juices, soda, etc.  Occassionally I drink alcohol.

OK, a Medical Doctor told you to drink 100 ozs?  Hmmm.  I'd wonder why if it were me.  As long as you are ok, that's all that matters @Lipstickdiva
