A physic. Yes my grandparents called an enema that. They also referred to hemorrhoids as piles. 


@smoochy   I do remember "physic".  I called it that for a long time till I heard it called an enema which seemed a better word for it .   It must just be an old fashioned word .

When my mother said we needed a physic she would pull out the Fletchers Castoria. We'd see that brown bottle and big spoon and run!

 

Never ever  knew anyone else in my life whose mothers monitored their bathroom habits like my mother.
