Is there something that brings back childhood memories every time you see it?  Mine is fruit cocktail - there were three kids in my family and I remember my mother rummaging through the can to be sure we each got a cherry.

@Bonkers1  - I remember my cousin and I would fight over getting the cherry if fruit cocktail was served.   Also at Thanksgiving all of us kids would want to get the wishbone!

I have a female cousin that's the same age.  When we were little we used to fight over who got to eat at a picnic with the RED dish.  My mother had these plastic dishes of all different colors and she always got the red one.

So when we were older one year I bought a big plastic red platter and gave it to her at Christmas.  We both just laughed.

On a serious note I always think of my mother every Christmas when I'm cooking dinner.

I remember fruit cocktail! Have not thought about that in years. I have a lot of trigger memories. Sticking with the food theme, it would have to be cranberry juice. My Dad’s Mom would always have a small glass of cranberry juice at each place setting whenever she had us all for dinner, which was only for special occasions.

For some unknown reason my mother would put fruit cocktail in jello.

My mother didn't serve canned fruit cocktail too often, but when she did, she would always added sliced ripe bananas to it.

I remember the toys in cereal boxes.  We were not allowed to open a new box until the boxes already opened were finished.

We would eat a lot of cereal to finish the box so we could be the first to open the new box and get the prize.

@Meowingkitty

My MIL did that...served it on a scrap of lettuce, and called it a "salad"...     di

At Thanksgiving, my grandpa got ONE drumstick...and all the other men would actually F I G H T over the other one.   It really scared me to see THAT going on at a "family" meal.      di

The wishbone from the turkey for one thing.  We each wanted it.  We would grab a side and pull and if you got the big side, you got your wish!
