I remember eating oatmeal as a child. My mother used to make it every morning in the winter so I would have something warm in me before I walked to school. When I grew up I suddenly developed an intense dislike for it.
One day I was watching the old Martha Stewart show and she mentioned how much she disliked oatmeal as a child. She then said she discovered the steel cut oats and found they were so different from rolled oats. I remember her saying if you think you don't like oatmeal just try the steel cut ones.
I decided to purchase a bag of steel cut oats and then I knew what she meant. The steel cut ones are so much tastier to me.
We buy Bob's Red Mill Organic Steel Cut Oats and we eat them 6 days a week. On Sunday we have either whole wheat pancakes or scrambled eggs with 2 slices of turkey bacon.
I never thought I would ever fall in love with oatmeal again but I am hooked.

I have been eating the Old Fashioned Oatmeal, not the quick stuff, for years. I make it with water and it takes about 3 minutes in our microwaves. Straight, it tastes as good as loses little nutrients by that method.
Banana/blueberry/grapenuts, and an assortment of other good things I have added. As a kid wasn't all that fond of it, now I love the stuff.

Every once in a while I go on a steelhead oat craze.. that is a lot of cooking for me these days, lol
I love the mcCann (?) Old fashioned steelhead oats. Takes 25 mins to cook. When I do cook it, I make extra large batch. I have tons of the 8 oz glass canning jars. I mix a little cinnamon in it. I place a half cup in each, a layer of a few golden and black raisins, a layer of slivered almonds with a few pecans, a thin layer of dried blueberries, and a teaspoon of chopped dried fruit. When cold I place canning lids on, and place in fridge. Lasts a good week. I open, add a little almond milk, sliver butter and heat until warm. I mix it all up when heated. Sometimes I like it in layers!

So nice to read about other oatmeal lovers! I eat Quaker’s Old Fashioned Oatmeal every morning. It takes just 5 minutes to cook so I make a fresh bowl every day. I thaw frozen organic strawberries and blueberries in the microwave and then add skim milk, stevia and one packet of Splenda. I hate to ruin all of that healthiness with an artificial sweetener, but I’ve never found a natural sweetener that works for me. Gotta have my Splenda, and that’s just how it is. It I do look forward to my oatmeal every morning, cooked just a little chewy. Yum!

I have always liked old fashioned quacker oat meal. However by the time I am done with it , It is dessert. I add brown sugar, carnation milk, and butter. I love it.

My Grandmother had oatmeal for breakfast every morning. She used to buy it in 50 pound bags many years ago. She was poor but I never thought that as she a,ways had good things to eat as was a great baker. It was the Old Fashioned kind. She used to say "Every Horse needs it's oats!"
I like the regular steel oats from Aldis. Use a large saucepan as tends to boil over if too small.

Usually on the weekend I make a bowl of Andrew Lessman's oat bran.
It only takes a few minutes to cook.I add vanilla protein powder, frozen berries, almond butter, and a scoop of berry powder. It smells like a bowl of fruity cereal.

I like bobs red mill thick oats ,made with milk,add nuts,fruit, cinnamon.

@lovesrecess thanks for the name of the oatmeal that had the glasses in it. So glad that someone else remembers it. I have a couple of those juice glasses.

@Anonymous032819 I've never heard of an oatmeal cooker but see that Amazon offers several. What does it do for you? What brand do you recommend? Thinking of my son's family, getting the 3 & 6 year olds fed and ready to leave for school by 7 is challenging. Maybe something like that would help.
