YOU HAVE CAUSE FOR A WELLNESS CHECK

THE POLICE WILL THEN CONTACT THE FAMILY

YOU CAN NOT WONDER ANYMORE.

@Anonymous032819

Your reply was spot on!

This person does care but she does not want to get involved

however she is involved because she has a key.

In this situation it is better to over react than do nothing.

The OP is such a caring person, and the problem is eating away at her. She is so kind and sometimes kindness and not wanting to hurt anyone can blind you.

I hope the neighbor is OK and the OP can have some peace of mind.

This happened to my elderly neighbor across the street.  I noticed his truck had not been moved for 2 days and he always went out to lunch.  Did not see his door open for his dog to look out.  Went over and looked in windows, did not see anything, but dog barked.

Immediately then called the police for a welfare check.  They came, also looked around first, but did enter.  The neighbor had fallen and could not move and get up and was injured.

Was hospitalized, then went to nursing home;  we thought he would recover, but he did die in the nursing home a month later.  He was very elderly at age 95.

OK - I tried calling his landline. It rang and rang and rang and then went to voice mail.  I went to his house. And let myself in. I left the bag of mail right by the front door, so his drugs would not freeze tonight. Called out his name numerous times.

He was sitting in his den with the TV on and he was taking a nap. All is well. Thanks for giving me the push to do something.

@drizzellla - ok, I just now read this thread and all of the responses.

'Mail has been sitting out there for over a week.  Lights are never on.  Curtains are never closed.

'So you called and it rang and rang.

Then you went over and went inside and kept calling out to him and he didn't respond at all though you were close enough to see that he was breathing and his arm moved.

So he didn't hear the phone, he didn't hear anyone enter his house, he didn't hear you standing right there calling out to him. Mail piled up for over a week, lights never on.

it's hard for me to understand all this.  You were right there in the room with him calling his name and he didn't respond?????

Once again, it's time to call the police.  Something isn't right here.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Talk with his family-bad idea. If they haven't done much she will be accused of interfering.

Adult Protective Services or Police!

I agree with others that - if you can't contact any of his children - then you really need to contact Adult Protective Services (or whatever agency handles this).

He is NOT OK.  If he's not taking in his medication in the mail, then clearly he's not taking his medication.  He may not be eating either.

He needs help.
