If I owned a business that was hurting right now, I'd be spending all working day every day coming up with new ideas to fit into the new reality. Agile companies survive. This is an evolutionary event for all of us. Yes, I'd try to get all the money I ethically could from government programs, but my main concern would be the new economy and completely changed demand.

When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.

Having owned our own business .. I completely sympathize with you ...

Your friend may wish she had saved that money if things get worse ..

Who said this thing is over ???  And the last thing I would do would

be to tell people how I spent the money .....If you don't want comments

don't tell ......

Hang in there ....

P.S. I have one last thing that might interest you .. I once overheard

one of our employees say he cound't wait to own his own business

so he wouldn't have to work so hard .... I walked away shaking my

head .. unless you have done it you have nooooo idea .....

We have yet to get the stimulus money and so far have not been able to get on our states web site for self employed people to get any assistance.

I know you didn't ask for advice - but wanted to see if you have been on the IRS website to check on your check - both my father and my brother had to go on the IRS site and "apply" to get their stimulus money and once they did this it took about a week to get (my father got his last week and my brother is supposed to get his this Wed).

@Nightowlz We take a 'draw' for our pay, we do not pay umemployment taxes.  The states have a program for gig workers, self employed, etc.  but it seems to be the last to be set up and the web site it jammed.  We will eventually get in to the site and pretty sure we will qualify, just not sure when.  We pay ourselves on Mondays, we opted not to this week and keep everything current at work as far as bills.  We have always kept a slush fund for the business but are concerned if it gets to low.

As far as the extra $600.00 for the unemployed I discussed this my my Congressman/federal level.  He said the bill would not have passed with out the additional money being handed out and they were well aware of the fall out but had no choice but to go with it, and business people are seeing the fall out as employess do not want to come back to work.

@Mom2Dogs

I forgot about being unemployed & not payig the taxes.

They should tell these people they have to go back to work if their place of business opens or they are no longer available to unemployment benefits just like they did with the processing plant employees.

Looks like the stimulus money should have been sent out to self-employed, low income, those that lost jobs first.

@debfau   I went to the site and followed the prompts, they wanted our banking numbers which is fine but also wanted  a dollar figure that is listed on our tax forms.  When my husband goes into the office tomorrow he will bring home our tax packet so I can in put the correct dollar value they asked for.

I am so sorry.

My nephew is on furlough, and my sister reports he is making more money now than when he was working.   I am all for being supportive to those that are in need, but come on!  They should not be able to make a "profit".

I've heard of some small businesses in my area that are having trouble rehiring their employees now that things are opening up.

With their unemployment and the extra $600, they're making more than they did on their jobs and aren't interested in working until it runs out.

Check your business insurance policy if you have one.  I know some people filing insurance claims. Also know of some people trying to get class actions together and suing the people who issued the orders to close.    I know the lawsuits cost $ but worth looking into.

Good luck.  We know many people in the same boat.
