Re: Money You Found, How Much, Where, etc.?

I am enjoying reading all the responses.  I wasn't going  to comment but I JUST found $1 on a neighborhood walk with DH.  Weird!

He then told me he was recently sprinting thru an airport to catch a flight and saw what he thought was $1 on the ground. He pointed to it and said to the guy behind him "money". He guy picked it and and said "$6 thanks"

I was trying on a pair of shorts at Goodwill and found $10 in the pocket. I mailed it to my DD at college.  She didn't check her mailbox often but I told her she should.

My brother was over my house one day. This was when our old nasty neighbors were there. Strangers were always coming inside their house. We always suspected drugs.   My brother was washing his car and found in a gutter, two dollar bills. Soaking wet.  He picked them up, put it in his pocket and forgot about them.  A week later he preparing to launder his clothes. While checking his pockets, he found the bills.  One was a $100.00 bill.  The other was a $10.00.

Re: Money You Found, How Much, Where, etc.?

The only thing I ever found was a wallet but really didn’t find it. I was going to Port Authority in NYC on my way home after work. I saw a well dressed young man get out of the cab. He was holding a suit on a hanger and had a brief case; he got out of a cab & his wallet tumbled to the street & nearly fell into the sewer. He was totally unaware; I ran to the sewer and scooped it up & called out to the owner but he didn’t hear me. So I started to run after him & a passerby was watching I guess & said “why don’t you mind your own business”. I guess he had ill intentions as the wallet was bulging & probably a lot of cash but I didn’t look. I caught up to him & he was very grateful.

When I was getting some coats out to take to Goodwill ... I found some coins in one of the pockets.

I didn't bother to count - just put it in coin jar.  Once a year I empty to jar and deposit the coins.

Last month, I rolled $43 dollars worth of coins!

Same story as a few others. Currently cleaning out a deceased family members home. My brother and I are convinced, nothing has every been thrown away. We have found thousands of dollars in the house. All over the house. No rhyme or reason, where cash is stored.

My brother and I split what we find.

Re: Money You Found, How Much, Where, etc.?

I remember finding a wet, dirty $10 once.  Another time, back in the days when we actually used cash, I was given the wrong change at a mall shoe store. When I realized it, I returned it.  I've found my own money that I had misplaced a few times.  Just the other day, there was $70 in a wallet I haven't used since last year.  A couple months ago I stashed garage sale cash in the front pocket of a Patricia Nash purse. I knew it was there. Also the other day, I was looking for something, can't remember what it was now, but I asked DH to help me.  He discovered the cash and thought he hit paydirt. Wrong, that's mine!  😆

Re: Money You Found, How Much, Where, etc.?

Not really something I lost/found but....years ago my friend and I had a yard sale. My parents gave me some clothes to sell that they didn't want anymore, one was a pair of men's suit trousers. A woman took the trousers to my friend to pay for them. I think they were marked a buck. The first thing my friend did was check the pockets where she found a hundred dollar bill. I asked my dad about it later and he laughed saying, "I wondered whatever happened to that hundred!"

The buyer was shocked and said she'd have returned the money had she found it. That was nice to know. I'm sure the temptation would be strong to keep it but I would've returned it, too.  Of course, it's different if you find money blowing in the wind with no way to find its owner.

Re: Money You Found, How Much, Where, etc.?

We pulled over at rest stop on road trip to use facilities and parked next to handicapped spot and wound up talking to a woman for a while before using the facilities.  Woman went on her way on the road and my husband noticed a very frail and sickly looking man and a much younger man with him sitting outside the rest area.  When we got to our car we saw a bunch of money on the ground - we did not count it but it was a wad of $20 bills.  We waited around to see if anyone would coming looking for it and then realized it must have been the people from the car parked in the handicap spot so we waited for the driver.  Has it happened it was the sickly man and his son.  My husband asked him if he had just lost something and he replied that his father kept on fooling with something in the pockets of his pants.  The man had just picked up his father from nursing home to drive to his hometown to take care of his father. I saw on the son's face that the money was the least of his worries.  He offered us a reward and we declined, just glad that the money was returned to rightful owner.

Re: Money You Found, How Much, Where, etc.?

My spouse always said " check the pockets of my clothes before you donate them!"  I never thought about it BUT he passed and I wanted to donate his things to our local veterans group & I remembered to check the pockets....holy crow I was shocked  when I checked his pockets in his golf pullover 😳😳😳

Then, he had what I thought were "empty" golf shoe boxes piled in his closet -- they weren't so empty -- more money.

I am still shocked when I think about it.  I smiled all the way to the bank 🙂😉
