I didn't exactly find any money--- -cash money laying around--- but one day during the very busy holiday season --on the weekend when there were so many people with carts full of groceries, the cashier made a huge mistake with the person in front of me ----he came back to show her the mistake while checking me out and as the line was growing longer and longer, she waved me thru and said to not worry about paying as it was going to screw up everything even more--I tried to protest but she was frazzled and so off I went to the tune of nearly $120!!! Never would I ever let that go normally, but the store was NUTS!!! I decided to donate that amount to a few local charities --- and actually , have done that every year around the hoildays since----I can still see that poor girls stressed out face---

I was 10 living in Philadelphia walking by row houses home from the corner store when I saw money rolled up in the street right off of the sidewalk.
I picked it up and it was $12 (which was like a million to me in the 1960's).
A woman walked off of her porch and said she saw me find the money and said I had to give her half ($6) because she saw me find it so she found the money as much as I did. She also told me not to tell my Mom. Being a child I gave her the money.
I immediately went home and told my Mom. My Mom was furious that our neighbor did that to me. She never mentioned it to the neighbor but the woman must have known I told my Mom because they never spoke again.
I also found $50 in line at the Bank and turned it in to the teller and $5 mixed in with the tomatoes in the grocery store (I kept the $5).

My BIL passed away 2 years ago. My DH, kids & I had the task of cleaning out his very messy cluttered home. In 40 years the guy never threw anything out.
Anyway, we all went to different rooms to sift through the mess. Suddenly, my DIL started screaming for us to come up to the loft. She found an old torn dusty shoebox with several thousand dollars in it !!

I've "found" a not insignificant amount of money of my state abandoned property website. Mostly stock and unclaimed dividend checks belonging to my parents. The first claim that I made was a bit of a hassle as I had to submit what seemed like 5 pounds of paperwork, but subsequent claims were a breeze. I just noted on the claim that they already had everything they need under claim #xxxxxxxxx.

I found $40 once inside a casino. Two $20s wadded up. Sat near where I found it for close to 30 minutes. If someone looked like they were searching for it, I would have returned it. No one came looking. I kept the $40.
@deepwaterdotter A coworker, she also found about $1600 in $100 bills in her grandmothers kitchen curtains after she passed. She said they never would have found it, but washed the curtains and found one in the washing machine. Then opened the hem and found 15 more. She was sure it took her a long time to save that money. Not sewn in, but pushed in the wide hem.

I have found a lot of money over the years. There were only a few dollars that I could keep....found on the ground.
I have found wallets, dropped cash in the bank and at the butchers or grocery store. All was returned to the owners.
When my mother passed, my father could not find her SS money. It took SS almost a year to issue her first check....when she received it, was quite large...about 10 months worth.
We looked everywhere and finally gave up.
One weekend about two years later, my sisters and I went through mom's clothing to donate the usable items.
My mother had a faux mink coat that was almost brand new. I am short like my mother, so my sisters thought I should take the coat.
The coat was not my style and I didn't want it....but, my sisters insisted I try it on and take it because it was expensive.
Being silly, I tried it on to humor them and began to twirl in it. When I put my hand in the pockets, there was a large wad of money in there. I found the missing cash. Thankfully, we did not donate that coat without checking the pockets.
After that we checked the pockets of all her clothing before donating.
Another time, my father called me and asked me to get my husband to come to his house ASAP. We both went.
My father's suspended ceiling tiles had collapsed in his dining room. He was storing money and important papers under the tiles. It got so heavy, it pulled the entire ceiling away.
There was money, thousands of dollars worth, and papers everywhere. It looked like a scene out of a movie. We collected the money and papers and my husband repaired the ceiling.
I often wonder if there was any other money hidden in that house when we sold it. My parents hid money everywhere.

Before my moms death we would talk about everything. She would tell me that she put money in everything. She told me to look over everything before getting rid of it. The day I went over there, after her death, I had to smile. I went through books, boxes of nightgowns, pockets of clothes, everything had money stuffed into it. I ended up finding around $4,000 just scattered like a scavenger hunt! I explained to my dad what mom told me and he just shook his head. I gave him the money. ![]()
