When I'm in my car running errands, I listen to a talk radio show and they have some interesting topics and they urge callers to call in to their studio and onto the air. Yesterday, when I was out and about, one of the topics was:
"Did you ever find money other than a few dollars, and what where the circumstances and amount? I was surprised at some of the callers and what they found and where. For me, the most I've found was a $50 bill blowing in a mall parking lot around Christmas time some years ago.
So, I thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss here.
So, what amount of money did you find, where and how, did it occur?

I found $300 folded up on the floor in the checkout line at a small local grocery store I go to. I gave it to the cashier and she took my name and number in case no one claimed it. I asked the manager two weeks later if anyone claimed the money. He said they looked at the camera from that day and found the man who dropped it.

I found $600 of my own money once. I had put it in an envelope in a drawer to buy some window shades. Totally forgot about it. Never bought any shades and found the money a few years later.

While returning books to the college library book drop early one Sunday morning, I found a trail of paper currency strewn across the athletic field. The bills were crumpled into wads. Being an early Sunday morning on campus, I was the only person in the area. I picked up and uncrumpled the bills while collecting them. They totaled around $35. I suspect it was what was left in the pocket of a careless student after a Saturday night foray to the local 'watering holes'. I went home with what would soon pay for a grocery run.

Twice I found a $20 bill on the street, one was in front of the library and the other on a shopping street. I always keep my eyes down when I'm walking--never know what I might find!

My 'found' money was mailed to me: 2 separate greeting cards sent a month apart. Both blank inside, & no return address.
$200 in cash (twenties) in each one.

I was at a mall about 15 minutes before the stores opened and as I was walking I found 3 twenty dollar bills and a ten dollar bill. Made for a nice shopping trip.

My father lived in an apartment in our basement after my mother died. When he died two years later I found thousands of dollars wadded up in rolls secured with a rubber band throughout his living space.

About 40 years ago my mom was at the large local post office. There were no cars in the lot and no one in the p.o. other than 2 employees.
She went over to a table to address something and lying on the ground was a $20 bill. This always makes me laugh -- she didn't know what to do so she put her foot on it! Then she picked it up and put it in her pocket, and then asked the employees if anyone had reported losing any money. They said that no one had been in for over a half hour so she kept it.

@ninjawife After my grandmother passed, we moved my grandfather to an assisted living facility. In the process of clearing out their apartment we found that $100 bills had been sewn into the hems of all the damask draperies. We noticed a rustling sound while folding them. We found around $6,000 after removing the stitching. Grandfather didn't recall how the bills got placed in the curtains.
A resident sitting in the community room of the facility overheard our conversation about this matter and offered an explanation: After the Great Depression, it was common for people to sew money into household furnishings instead of depositing it in banks. Grandpa said that sounded like something Grandma would have done.
