I do not use fabric softener of any form in our regular laundry, because of sensitivity issues with everyone in this house.

I do use fabric softener in my washable curtains that are packed up until the next season.

I use vinegar in the washer for many years now, just pour it into the rinse cup.

Washes don't smell like vinegar afterwards. Lots of people have asked me about that.

On my towel loads (includes socks and such), I add a half cap of those scented beads.

During the winter, living in high altitude and low, low humidity, I have to use a half dryer sheet sometimes to lessen the static. Can't find a sock, it's stuck to the towel!

I use Downey Unscented liquid. I find that using fabric softener makes a big difference in how unwrinkled our clothes look after washing and drying, whether air dried or in the dryer.

I've tried vinegar, and didn't see where it helped to reduce wrinkles at all.  And although I've read (mostly on these boards) where fabric softener hurts the clothes, my clothes look great - for years.  I do use wool dryer balls with our towels because I know not to use fabric softener with towels.  But I wouldn't be without my Downey.

I do because otherwise I get static cling.  I use various things depending on the load I'm doing and I use the smallest amount I can to prevent static cling.  I hate the smell of both detergent and fabric softener clinging to my clothing.

If you can avoid putting synthetic fabrics in the same load with natural fabrics, you won't get static cling. I know it sounds crazy, but it works!

I used to until I read how bad it supposedly is for clothes.  I use dryer balls now.

What does a dryer ball actually do?

No.  I hate the smell and the feel of the clothes.  I use half a chamomile dryer sheet from Grove.

I can tell right away when people use fabric softener.  I have to step back because the smell is overwhelming to me.  If I smell it for too long, I get a headache and nauseous.

@Bri369

Fabric softeners come in unscented versions.  We have allergies, and I've been using unscented Downey for years. So no, you wouldn't know that I use fabric softener.

@Tinkrbl44  IMO they soften the close and make them dry faster.  The clothes are softer without coating them and don't have a smell.  I used fabric softener for years and happier without it.

@Ro NEVER. I use wool dryer balls.    I also started using Nellie's about 3 years ago and I will never even go back to regular detergent.
