We have one in our bedroom. Won't get rid of it. If something happens with the new technology( (cell phone ) we can still contact people. My daughter's still have at least one in their homes. Now the definition of land line means the phone is plug into a Jack and you cannot walk away from receiver.  Portables are not land lines because if electricity goes out so do they..Some old things should stay and are better.

nope, I've had VOIP for probably 15 years now. I think my parents are the only people I know that still have a land line. Heck even though my VOIP is basically free I've been very tempted to just unplug the phone.

I have a landline and DSL internet that costs about $75 a month.  Just internet is not any cheaper.  We don't have FIOS in this area.

I like having the security of a landline.   Recently, we got notice of a suspect loose in our general area by landline.  That would not be possible with the cell phone.

Having caller ID is an extra cost but I think it is worth it!

I think it might,  most police departments offer a text message warning system

I still have my landline and DSL.  I work from home a lot and am on a lot of conference calls.  Nothing is more annoying than being on a conference call with someone who is on their cell phone.  Especially when the call goes 1-2+ hours.

I am not tempted to switch to Fios or Xfinity bundles.

No land line here. Got me an Ooma (VoIP) and I couldn't be happier! All I pay is the FCC tax monthly which is only about $5. Saved me hundreds of dollars since I got my Ooma.Woman Very Happy

ETA - I really don't understand why I even have to pay that FCC tax for VoIP because I already pay FCC tax on my internet...??

How many phones do you have connected to your  Ooma?

I have a regular 3-phone cordless system (has an answering machine at the base ringer) The base ringer is connected to the Ooma and the base ringer still acts the same as if the Ooma wasn't connected to it. The only difference is I receive voice messages on the Ooma rather than the base ringer. This way I can see and listen to my messages on any internet device, cell phone with 4G or from a regular home phone handset/base ringer.. @Nuttmeg

ETA -  Ooma is Alexa compatible, the Echo Connect is being sold as a bundle along with the Ooma control box.

@Mominohio  Thank you for sharing! If you ask  for a discount like you do....and are persistent, then you will come out ahead! Good for you!  I am not quite as good as you that way....I find it stressful.

I do call Sirus Radio when I get my yearly bill and tell them that the most I am willing to pay is $99 PERIOD... or I will cancel.  They want like $199.  They always give in to my request so far.  If I did cancel...no big deal......  I just will not pay more than $99!

I have  not called Comcast ....  I should!  I guess I just hate playing their  games.....but I know that the people who play the games do come out saving money.

I had a free 3 month trial with Sirius/XM and to continue they had a nice discounted rate, but the regular rate for just the car is $350 a year.

Good to know they can be negotiated.  Like you, $99 is a fair price for that.  I am not in my car enough to justify more than that.  I have an HD radio and it gives me more than the regular channels.

I have a land line but it's just for the fax machine.  We don't even have an old style telephone.

I still have my land line and intend to keep it.  It's part of my AT&T U-Verse bundle, and it's only $30/month.  After reading these responses, I guess that's a bargain.  Living alone, I've occasionally had cell phone problems where I had to use my land line to call the cell phone people.  Without another phone in the house, I would be out of luck.  I also have Nomorobo, so it blocks the tons of solicitation calls I receive.
