We have the cheapest land line service available in addition to our iPhones.  The land line serves 2 purposes for us.  First, the answering machine on the land line picks up all of the "robo-calls" so we don't have to.  Second if our power goes out, especially for an extended period of time, it serves as our life line to the outside world.  We wouldn't give up our land line unless we were forced to do so.

I gave up having a landline phone in my home about 10 years ago and never looked back. I kind-of chuckle when posters here complain about unwanted phone calls. I get none, absolutely none. When we built our cottage 3 years ago we didn't even get wiring for a landline phone. Thank goodness.
