We haven't had a LL for six years and don't miss it. people can get ahold of us day or night anywhere. If we don't recognize a number we don't answer. Hesitant at first but made right choice for us.

We ditched our land line in December and are saving $800 a year. No one ever called on it except my mother in law and marketers and those calls were ridiculous; sometimes 3 or 4 a day. It's so nice NOT getting them although a few come on cell phones too but I can easily block them. We have finally "trained" my mother in law to call us on our cell phones! We put off canceling the landline because I thought since we needed internet, we had to have a land line! LOL! Finally decided to call and inquire and discovered that frontier does provide internet only in our area so we bit the bullet and discontinued land line. No regrets - yet!

Just tried to speak to someone at Ooma Customer service and it was horrible, it seemed she was untrained or had no clue able the product.

As I understand it Ooma is similar to the Optimum Phone service, it is a voice over IP which connects to my modem.

Do I get to keep my phone number, she could not answer this.

I still am not sure I need a home phone as I said I have gotten a sum total of 5 calls in the last 5 days

No land line here. Got me an Ooma (VoIP) and I couldn't be happier! All I pay is the FCC tax monthly which is only about $5. Saved me hundreds of dollars since I got my Ooma.Woman Very Happy

ETA - I really don't understand why I even have to pay that FCC tax for VoIP because I already pay FCC tax on my internet...??

Ooma is a free VoIP service. All you buy is their control box and pay a monthly FCC tax. You can keep your old phone number but this costs a one-time fee of $40, I think, to route your (new) number to go through and "dial" your old number. When you do this your number will appear on someone's CID just as it did before. After routing is complete you will be notified in either an email and/or your Ooma account.  After that you can call your landline company and tell them you have VoIP and to stop landline service. @I am still oxox

@I am still oxox,

The Ooma box connects any kind of home phone to the internet. The Ooma box is connected between the home phone and your internet router/modem.

As a side note....Ooma is the only Voip phone that is Alexa compatible.

@SilleeMee

I do not have Alexa and I am looking to cut costs, I think it is time to cut out the Voip that I currently have, any one that needs me calls my cell

We do, we have the Bundle package from our cable company, and I would never get rid of my land line. I don't like talking on a cell phone that much.....I don't talk that much on the phone, but I do speak to my mother every evening for a little bit......I am not sure how much of a difference it would cost-wise to get rid of it.....

We still have our landline. We can't get rid of it. The telemarketers would be unable to get ahold of us. Can't have that happen. In about 3 days we got 27 calls.

we do for 3 reasons,

terrible cell service in the house and has been as long as we have used a cellphone 20+ years.

for business reasons we block our outgoing number

who wants to get spam calls on a cell phone
