K79 - How does the hot water button work?

Quick question:

Can someone who has a K79 explain how the hot water feature button works?

Does the water come THROUGH where the k- cup was, or does it have a separate route?

I have tried just hitting a cycle on a normal keurig and the plain water always picks up residue from the k cup area.

Just want to know if the water goes straight from the reservoir to a heating device and then to my mug - bypassing the k-cup area.

THANK YOU!!!!

I can't answer your question, but with my Keurig, I just make sure the container for the k-cup is clean, then just hit the "brew" button for hot water & haven't had any problems with residue.

It goes through the same area. There's a "rinse" button that dispenses the smallest cup size to clear out the coffee from the last k-cup and the "hot water" button. I use a mug to catch the rinse water, then toss that in the sink or let it cool and toss it on a plant, then I use the hot water button to make some tea.
