I don't mind seeing small dogs that women like to carry in their tote or in a backpack pet carrier. But the larger dogs, no not really a good idea.

I am a HUGE dog lover(hence my nic) but I don't think animals belong in stores. I would be very nervous if I was shopping with my three and five year old grandkids with a Pit in the store...they are unpredictable , as are many other dogs...I feel it is a danger to the other shoppers

@GenXmuse^THIS. Service dogs are trained to the max; many people do not train their pets properly and that IS a threat to those service dogs and other people.

My opinion:
1) stores: post your policy on the doors (ie: no pets allowed
2) in general, don’t take your beloved creatures into stores
We had a LARGE male Akita. After a year of ownership, I realized that he would “rush” small creatures in our yard (instinct). Then I thought of the potential for our dear dog to rush a small child.
Our habits of thinking all dogs can be treated like human beings changed.
[PS we also sent him to doggie boot camp to be professionally trained. Even with this training, we were not professionals and I was not strong enough to override a potential situation.]

@LTT1. So what did you do about the dog? Keep him, rehome him, not take him out?

It sounds like the lady knew what she did wasn't the norm. I think she was wrong and should have taken her dog home, then gone out shopping. There are many things you can't do in a store that there isn't a sign saying don't do this, that and the other. People need to use some common sense.

Taking a dog into a store is not fair to the customers or the dog! You are taking a big risk when you do this not knowing how the dog will react and if the people are afraid of dogs, have allergies, or are nervous when they see a dog coming their way. I personally love animals and this isn't against animals as much as against poor judgement by the owners.
I will add some kids are let loose in stores and create chaos running around and touching everything and the store employees look the other way while the parent ignores.
What it boils down to are the people who do these things are inconsiderate and rude.. Do not bring animals into any store which doesn't allow animals and keep your kids close to you, they are YOUR responsibility.

Just another point to my argument that the world has gone completely
nuts .....

A Pitt bull? Unless it was a service dog then I would say no. They are unpredictable IMO.

I love dogs and wouldn't mind them most anywhere.
But, that's not the policy of most stores. So, don't bring your dog to any place that doesn't specifically post the policy. There are some banks in my area posting they are dog friendly. I shop at Petsmart, and some people bring dogs there. And they are specific about permitting dogs.
But other than service dogs, don't bring your dog unless you KNOW it is permitted.
