Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

In times past I collected a few things, nothing over the top as far as quantity, but just to decorate here & there: fans, rabbits, crystal figurines, sea shells; and somehow I acquired snow globes.

Some pieces are peeking out from my kitchen cupboards - a nice way to reduce decorative clutter.

The only thing I consciously collect now are instruments for my home schooled music class.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

Is there anything that I don't collect.  Kind of sad.  My daughters want NOTHING,  One even said "mom don't you know what a trashcan is?"

We are talking about antique furniture handed down by my grandmother to my mother and then to me.  We are talking about silver, china and crystal service for 12.  And of course just about everything else I cherished and took care of for years.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

Yes but not a large collection. I have several Lladro figurines that only pertain to ballerina's but do have the boy & girl on the carosel which I have cornered on the wall on each side of our bed. This reminds me of the days my Grandfather took me to the amusement parks as a child with a photo of us on the carosel. They give me Joy! I Love Nutcrackers & have 4. I do love Butterfly gardening but its not considered a collection. Oh, I have too many perfumes so I am on a no buy unless one of favorites bottles is near empty.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

Years ago I collected the old crocks (and crock bowls) that were used for food storage.  My style is more contemporary now and I still have my crocks (and a few other antiques that I'm not sure what to do with.  I don't collect anything now.

Does anyone know if some of these collectibles are worth anything?

My hubby collected salt and pepper shakers.  I collect dust.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

The only thing I still actively collect are vintage tea cups.  Always room for another teacup.  Thrift stores and antique malls are my hunting grounds.  Target price is under $20.  I use them all the time.  Coffee in the morning, or tea in the evening.

Beyond that, I inherited pretty dishes from my grandmother.  Having inherited the love for pretty china from my mom, I have a variety of patterns.  I use them all the time.

Hummels, Dept 56 Original Snow Village, and dolls are all part of the 90's collectibles binge.

Since they are not worth much now, I just enjoy them.  I rotate the displays as a creative outlet. I figure I have 10 years until the big come-and-get-it estate sale.  So I am enjoying everything with wild abandon.

@bonnielu what a callous response from your children. I understand that much of what you have isn't their cup of tea, but surely a beautiful antique or some china  could be incorporated into their lives. Someday they may regret passing up a few cherished items.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

I suspect future generations will regret the lose of family heirlooms. It's their history and their connection to those who have gone before.

I have a signet ring that belonged to and worn every day by my great, great uncle who was a banker. I have jewelry, china, crystal...that has been handed down to me from other ancestors. I have address books, letters, photos, and more. None can be replaced, all are cherished.
