@Bri369  As you do not know me or my character  - but I am getting an impression of you - I will treat your thread re ‘crabby’ with the contempt it deserves.  Thank you for your input.

As I really do not want to go to my youngest granddaughters baby shower!

Having been to a couple recently of her friends - all nice young people with all their babies and toddlers - I feel ‘babied’ out.  Last one I went to was taken over completely by the under 5’s and I feel ‘been there done that’.  I am definitely getting too old.  Don’t get me wrong I love the babies but about 20 of them for 4 hours wore me out and they will all be there today in a very small indoor space.  Just having a moan!

@dulwich  .... I agree with you 100% ....  I just don’t go to these parties anymore ... too many little adorable kids there who get on my nerves! ..  I send a gift so they can’t call me cheap 🥰

I dislike baby showers. Just not into oohing and aahing over baby stuff. I am usually the one that brings a bag of practical items like a thermometer, nail trimmer, baby shampoo, ointment, etc.

Hate the silly & tacky games. I was invited to my husband’s cousin’s baby shower. Only went because my MIL needed a ride. Anyway, in one game they passed around diapers filled with smashed candy bars to resemble poop. Had to guess which diaper was which candy. Gross.

WHAT? now that's a truly nasty game idea!

Bri369 .... this is what a CRAB looks like .... I'm 100% with

the OP, the last shower I attended was a scream-fest, could barely "see" or hear what was being unwrapped by the mother-to-be.  Babysitters are easy to find.

I have been to so many showers, bridal and baby, been in many weddings and attended a lot of receptions.  At this point I too am not excited over these events.

However, I do have to say when I am at the shower I always have fun and enjoy the socialization.  I see relatives and friends and we have such a good time.  After all it is a joyous event.

Sadly I also attend many wakes/funerals as time goes by and that definitely bothers me much more.

@seaBreeze   You just described what has, and will, happen at shower.  My daughter just called me and said there are 15 babies/toddlers already there and she is leaving in a minute!  However all the young Mums do enjoy being together which is good.

Oh, so you think the OP is crabby, you might want to rethink that. Perhaps you are the crabby one, OP simply posted an honest statement and it sent you off the rails. Sad you have such an attitude.

I thought saying "crabby" was funny.  I'm sorry but if you don't want to go I think you are a little crabby about it.  That's how I would see myself if I didn't want to go.

It's ok.  Sometimes you don't feel like going somewhere.  Just because!  Just because you're a little frownie faced, crabby, don't wanna put up with it, dread having to be around people and be "up" for it!  It happens to me sometimes and now I just don't go!  Stay home and be crabby by myself and enjoy every second of it!  Woman LOL

Oh, I hear you. I'm surpised people are all bringing their kids to showers these days. Back in the day, it was pretty much an adult affair. i can't imagine with all the rug rats around. Chaos.

@daisyk I think there aren't many "adults" now under the age of 40.

I adore babies, but ,the last shower I went to I left early. It wasn't the babies , it was the blaring rock music.

I am just at the age, that I don't want to listen to that, for hrs on end

Luckily ,I explained I needed to eat ,and I couldn't have the  carb laden food they were serving. So, I departed. There were also men at the shower ,and everyone seemed to be having a nice time, so I slipped off as quietly as I could

I gave a  bag filled with nice gifts, and I am sure that no one was offended. I got a very nice thank you note

@Sooner   I think you have me completely wrong.  I never dread being around people not in a million years,  DH and I very sociable - but what I based my decision on was from previous experiences with this group of ladies.

As I am a ‘Granma’ it is assumed I will look after the kiddos at these events - which I have done - but decided just did not want to be communal granma today.  I do watch my grandson 2 days a week from 7.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. which consists of play dates, the park, wrestling a 3 y.o. who is very with it! etc.

I do not feel crabby, want to be alone, dread going out in fact DH here with 6 of his pals watching the U.K. Champion soccer so off now to make snacks.  Have a good day.
