Re: How Would You Handle This Customer Service Issue?

I ordered an item from JC Penney for store (curbside) pickup. It has now arrived at the store. In the week since I placed the order, the price has dropped significantly.

I called customer service to get my price lowered and was told they no longer make price adjustments on the phone for store pickup orders. You must go inside the store and ask in person. A supervisor repeated that response.

With high covid transmission in my area, I'm still doing curbside as much as possible.

I'm leaning towards just not picking it up and letting JCP return it to their warehouse. It's something wanted, not needed.

Any suggestions?

How much of a price decrease is it?  You indicate it's something you "want" and not "need?"  How important is it for you to have?  Only you know the answers, but it's an interesting question @PickyPicky3

She can live her life however she pleases @elated .  So can I.  I am very very cognizant about where I go and with whom.  That's for "me."  Others have to do what they feel is best for them.

You have to ask yourself how badly do you want the item and how badly are you afraid of Covid.

I still go out all of the time....today my art class resumed after the holidays and one of the women was wearing a mask.  There are 8 of us in a closed in space.  I go out shopping, get my hair & nails done, eat at restaurants, etc.  I don't plan on stopping.  I try to make sure that my immune system is the best is can be but of course I realize I could still come down with something.

That said, my daugheter's baby shower is next Saturday and I plan on staying in as much as possible next week.  I would hate to wake up on the morning of the shower sick.

If you really don't want to venture into the store then I would cancel the item.  Tell them you are not picking it up and don't let them charge you.  You can always make the purchase again.

Re: How Would You Handle This Customer Service Issue?

I have lived a fearless, adventure-filled life for 73 of my 75 years, but this "little virus" has my name on its list. Fear is crippling if it's not based in reality. My fear hands me a checklist every time I walk out the door and then sits in the backseat to make sure I comply,

I can live without this purchase, and I agree with @moonandthestars  that it's an obnoxious policy which adds another reason to cancel.

Unless I wake up tomorrow feeling otherwise, JCP can keep it.

I appreciate all your ideas. Heart

@PickyPicky3 @It sounds like maybe you really wanted to cancel the order all along and you were just looking for validation from us (fellow posters) that that was ok. There is nothing wrong with your preferences; it's a personal decision. Everyone can understand the need for safety. Covid is worse in some geographic locations than others.

I would reorder the item getting the lower price and not pick up the first item if your budget allows.

Some stores do not adjust.  You got your item before your size sold out.  That day you made a decision.

Three places I placed orders online.  All three items dropped in price.  They all refused refund ... I was told return the item and place it at the lower price.  Ain't nobody got time for that.   These are all places that refunded price differences before.  I think this is just a way for companies to save money.  People won't be bothered to go thru all that so they say forget it and the company saves the money.

You already know the answer. If you want the price reduction, mask up and go into the store. If you don't want the price reduction either pick up your item or don't and wait for the refund. It's all up to you.

Re: How Would You Handle This Customer Service Issue?

I live very rural, no other homes in my view and didn’t go anywhere for last few years being an at risk person with a rare illness. The only places I went was several Doctors appts and that is where I got COVID. At the Doctors office! I had mask, hand sanitizer and the works and ended up in the hospital. I decided now that I have cancer to live the rest of my time enjoying life and going places when Im able. So unless one doesn’t even go to Doctors appts cant let fear stop one from living. Is up to you if you wish to get a purchase or not. Unfortunately I can’t stop going to Doctor.

@PickyPicky3 @Cancel your order. Let Penny's return it to the store, as long as there's no penalty for canceling it. Then, if you want to, just reorder at the new price and do the drive up pick up for the new garment. Either that or just don't buy it. I'm very sorry that some posters were harsh with you. You have the right to feel and act any way you choose to.
