Your story sounds just like mine. My MIL could go forever and she was well past 90. Yep, 90. Not me. I go, I like to browse with my friend, we have lunch, maybe hit one more store and then we go home.
Now with Covid, I'm in and out in a flash. I haven't been to Kohls, Marshalls/ TJ Maxx, and recently just popped into Macys and Bath and Body Works for a bit and then out again.
I've taken to shopping at my local fruit/veg market (they also sell limited groceries and do sell meat) rather than going to Meijer. Wearing a mask is horrible. It's no longer fun to leave the house.

To this day favorite stores are Lowes and Home Depot. I love walking around looking at everything, especially the tools. Weird? Yes I'm aware of how weird I am.
But slowly as my back has gotten so bad over the years I've found I can't do that any longer. Standing on those cement floors does a job on my knees (2 fake knees) and my horrible back pain....I'm done in about 1/2 hour.
But I'm so freaking hard headed...(a major flaw). I still walked up and down every aisle in the store (grocery) and stood and talked to friends at the CVS. I had to explain where I'd been for 4 months...but it was nice to hear I was missed (was it me or my Cheryl's cookies I give everyone...Ha).
To summarize all of this bla bla...I can still spend a good amount of time talking to people and walking the aisles.
I'm a people person. This virus thing has been terrible for me. I've always known I get my emotional strength from talking to everyone, especially strangers.
I was determined not to let the back pain, my life being reorganized and lack of being around other humans...get me down.
I was determined to think about how much of everything my glass was filled....and not just filled but overflowing.
I even managed to add to my prayers every night to ask GOD to give support to the people and families who lost loved one's due to this horrible virus.
I love coming here. There are so many intelligent and kind people. I've learned so much here. There's always the QVC forum.
What a positive post! Thank you for giving us all some perpective. I am a people person too and have been dying to be out with my friends. I love my husband but I need to be with some other people, too. I also talk to strangers (I am the type strangers come up to and ask me questions lol) and also recently retired so my lack of people has been very hard. But I needed to read your post to get an attitude adjustment! Thank you

I am an in and out shopper. I can't go shopping with someone who turns a 10 minute shop into 3 hours.

It depends on the store.... Of course this is my PRE-pandemic routine---
If it's Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Michael's, Kirklands, Tuesday Morning, Target.... I can spend 2 hours in each EASY!!!..... Also I love books so the same can be said for Barnes & Noble or Halfprice Books....
For clothes shopping it depends....if Im looking to update my wardrobe I can spend 2 hours in Dillards...then after clothes, spend time checking out the fashion jewelry and fragance section......
The grocery store not so much even BEFORE Co-Vid....get it done as quick as possible, thats why I started using instacart...

When I was in my 20's and living in a large city I loved spending time shopping, could truly make a day of it. As I got older and realized the importance of saving for the future that dramatically changed. Now I am in and out.

Always been a Woman On A Mission. I know what I seek, I'd scan a store, in-out, done.
I just did 2 weeks of grocery shopping with 1 drop off service and 1 pick up curbside. Didn't set foot in any store.
I consider endless browsing over something I'll never buy just hours wasted.

Pre-Pandemic:
All of my shopping was generally rushed; never seemed to have the time to be leisurely about it. That's where QVC came in. The wee hours of the morning were my time to shop without interruption.
(that was of course before the endless repeat programming)
Once a year my daughter and I would take a long weekend and head to Myrtle Beach. We'd take in a minor league baseball game while there, but the main focus of the trip were the outlet stores and Broadway on the Beach. We'd spend two days of marathon shopping, and it was always a blast.
We've been doing this since my daughter turned 13, so this year would have been the 14th year. Of course it's not going to happen this year......but I have a solution.
We'll do it twice next year ![]()

While I don't begrudge it others, I've never been a 'shopper'. I don't want to look around at everything. I just need to get what I'm there for and move along.

In younger years I'd go early to a mall and stay late, go have dinner to celebrate my finds afterward. Now I still enjoy looking around a single store or two, taking my time to ensure I don't miss anything interesting.
My DH has learned it is best that he not accompany me inside, if he is along he will read a book in the car. It's about the thrill of the hunt. Or it used to be. Anymore, I have everything I need so most of what I see I find myself thinking "I have that" or no need for it.
