Thank you for that excellent information. But I find it a bit ironic that it came from AARP.....one of the biggest perpetrators of invading privacy and targeting ads and junk snail mail for themselves and all their third party affiliates (especially UnitedHealthCare)....... Oh and may I add one of the wealthiest lobby groups too---although cant really delve into that aspect....)
They dont mention social media avenues either ...

It’s the world we live in.
My adult children see no problem with the tracking either. But it bugs the heck out of me. I get QVC ads on Facebook all the time, and pictures of things that I looked at on the QVC website. That is an easy connection there, but there are so many other more complicated or sneakier ones. I don't want everything I do to be out there for someone else to review and track. Feels like our privacy is being sold.

AARP is one amoung hundreds of others. And concerning wealthy lobby group.........will stop here.

One of the reasons I posted this article.....
There are far too many posters here who frequently admit/post "they are not technical/computer savvy" or something similar.
I find this alarming.
That is so true I have friends and co-workers that are very intelligent but very naive when it comes to privacy, security, frauds, and scams.........Thanks for sharing...........

@sidsmom....and there isn't a darned thing we can do about it. It will continue....and get worse with all the technology out there.
Again, I don’t have an issue with it so I don’t know what ‘worse’
is referring to, so....
So you dont mind the telemarketing and robo calls on your smart phone and all that junk mail from tracking your interests....
Then there's the opening that that fraudster can gather from browsing/shopping online info that can start the Identity theft process.......I saw an interesting news interview with a former fraudster how a tiny bit of info can be used to steal identities or open credit cards etc...just a name, just an address....crooks are clever......

Nefarious activity is one thing.
Living in the 21st Century is a totally different thing.
The original article mostly states the facts of living in this time.
There were several cautionary actions scattered in, but the majority
of the article is...just the way it is.
It’s like,
If someone leaves their car unlocked & someone steals it,
it doesn’t make owning a car evil. I don’t have a problem
‘owning a car’...but I’m smart enough to lock it.
All the tracking is nothing new.
Taxes, Census...our ancestors were tracked just like we are today.
Just being on your computer...someone is tracking you.
You DO realize..just posting on this forum, someone is tracking you.
Is it for evil activity? No.
People are confused, then add ignorance...that’s where fear sets in.
Surprised we still have to talk about this.

Have been reading some of the responses on here that have been made this afternoon. Much of the same on here this afternoon is what I said earlier. We have to be careful what kind of information we give out on these forums. It isn't going to stop....they will continue tracking us and going after our info..... I do know for a fact about what we post on here is used for others to send us emails for what they offer. As an example..... I have posted about some of the pain in have in my back. It is on the side I fractured when I fell...not from the tumor on my back more on the right side. You would be surprised at how many emails I get for spine pain relief, from medications to spine surgery. Just delete them. I have tried to opt out on getting their emails, but McAfee comes on and warns me that if I want to go there, they could damage my computer. So, I just delete them.
It's simple.....just be careful what information you put out on your computer.....from financial info, to insurance, to wills, etc. It is no ones business, and most folks don't really want to know.
