Re: Hover Boards

[ Edited ]

From what I've seen and heard on TV, it appears to be the "lithium ion" batteries that may be at least 1 of the causes. Several Major Airlines prohibit even putting them on their planes.

I personally don't see much purpose for them other than something new. I foresee having very few places to legally be able to even use them. Some "elders" overestimating their balance and ability to control this "thing" with wheels. Wheels/motors/10mph/balance and a fairly smooth place to ride?

A recipe for disasters. Just my opinion, of course.

We bought these for our kids from EVINE, haven't received them yet, but I think we are retuning them...just can't take the chance of fire....

People like these because it is easier than walking.  Most people should be walking more!!

As with any bicycle, skateboard, scooter or other small vehicle, people can get hurt.  Helmets should be worn and the vehicle used with great caution in the safest way possible, and not in the midst of crowds of people like malls or airports, and not in areas of high auto traffic. The rider could tumble into traffic (as did happen, sadly).    I can see the use of them for scooting around a warehouse or other large facility.

I disapprove of riding one while pushing a baby stroller, which I have seen.  If the person should fall, the stroller could tip over or roll away to who know's where.

I havent bought any, no one seems interestred to have one. However, I read its the knock off ones that are catching fire so if I were to buy one i would not buy the knock offs.

Yes, any of those items you mentioned you can get hurt on. The hover board has no where to put your hands on, and it's electric.

I worked in a huge factory for 33 years and it had lots of intersecting paths. There were also a whole lot of BIG electric fork trucks/golf carts, and even a few gas powered trucks. There was always truck/employee accidents, some pretty serious, and there WERE all way ceiling hanging mirrors! This was even before people walked around with their face glued to a phone.

If a building has no intersections they might be "kinda safe", otherwise? Just more man/woman hours lost "on the job", and BIG companies love to brag about their Safety Records.

If I were going to spend $400 for something to ride, I would make darn sure it was something I could ride legally in most places. I like challenges and have pretty good balance from growing up on ice skates. I'll pass on this expensive, and dangerous, for many, fad thank you.

I don't know that these have knockoffs,  but the better-known brands which are not cheap,  have been banned by most airlines and Amazon quit selling them.   I think they're all suspect.   The risk is inherent in that type of battery.

Has anyone received pre orders from QVC that were suppose to ship on 12/11? Everything I have read and researched says that the brand Swagway is in compliance  with all the rules and regulations and swagway brand is not being targeted on the recall.

These still sell, which puzzles me considering their dangerousness.
