Re: HUGE increase in SPAM calls!

DH wants to keep our landline and we needed new phones. The new ones have multiple options when it comes to blocking calls and I set it up for the caller to hit # in order for our phone to ring. We went from 5 to 6 spam calls a day to 0. I can tell by all the missed calls now that there are even more.

I just told my sister the same thing. It was so nice they had practically gone away.  But guess it it Medicare sign up time. That is what most of mine are so far.

@Dragonflyveb   I not only received a spam email yesterday, but then  a follow-up recorded phone message from the same entity.

@elizabethl123   Lol!  Whenever religious zealots would come around wanting to sign me up for their religion, I told them I am Catholic, and finally they stopped coming, I am not Catholic, lol.

I, too, have been receiving many more calls on land line and cell! !  It does seems to go in periods.  Hardly had any calls during summer; many more now. One day I counted 25! I never answer any call if I don't recognize the number, but it is still so irritating.

I do have a nasty message on my phone notifying caller that we do not answer calls if we don't recognize the number!!  I also say 'this is your one chance to leave a message or your number will be blocked'.  I don't get too many messages!!

I do have a block button, but it only holds 250 calls. So every so often,  I have to go back and delete some blocked numbers.  I get many calls that say 'Unknown caller'  or 'Unknown number' on caller ID .  Those are harder to block!!

Re: HUGE increase in SPAM calls!

It is awful !!  I finally turned the ringer off on my phone and turned off the answering machine.  My service is thru Comcast so I see who is calling (it shows on the tv screen) if I'm watching TV also I can get a call history list online and the callers can leave a message on Comcast, which they never do.

I am not getting too many calls but I am getting an increase in text messages.

I don't open but I can see what the message will be with the first line or two.

It usually begins with "Hi Thuong" or "Hi Yen"; obviously I am neither.

Sometimes it is just a jumble of numbers and letters.

It really ticks me off because when I hear that *ping* I think it is DS or GS; the only two who ping regularly and sometimes DDIL.  With DS having severe health issues I never know if it will be a text about that, too.

In fact I was *pinged* shortly after midnight this morning and my heart sank thinking DS was taken to the hospital.

I wish I could block everything that is not in my contact list-either by call or text.

@Dragonflyveb

Same situation with me.  I guess all those robots are back at work now Cat LOL

Like you, blocking does no good...new numbers each time all day.

Mostly, I just ignore them as I'm in and out of the house a lot and don't hear the phone.

But, it does get annoying.

Re: HUGE increase in SPAM calls!

I was expecting a business call this afternoon. Phone rang and I didn't recognize the number. Caller ID showed an area code and number that could have been for the call I was expecting so I answered. Live person said she was with a governmental agency and needed to verify my census report. I told her mine had been completed and submitted on a legitimate link. She said she needed to verify my personal information.

I told her I'm not saying you are one but there are scammers who present themselves as government, businesses, banks, etc. and use info gained from calls. I said I don't give out my personal or identifying info over the phone.

We got rid of our landline years ago and have never regretted it. We were bombarded with political calls and that put an end to those, The spam calls have ramped up the past two weeks or so on my cell phone, but they are all spam or solicitors.
