Here in NY, all non-essential businesses are closed at least until May 15th, but I think it will go until at least June.

The owner of my nail salon texted me last week that she might not ever be able to reopen....so sad, as I believe this will be the case for a lot of businesses.

As for the original poster - I hope you both at least wore masks, but what you did is still risky behavior.  I am a nurse who works for the Department of Health and also at a nursing home, whose father died 3 weeks ago from coronavirus that he contracted at a short-term rehab facility, I see each and every day (and have personally experienced)  what Covid-19 can do!

My heart breaks for you. I had already called the funeral parlor......and then my LO snapped back to life. I hope she will thrive and continue to gain strength. I will not be able to hug her for months, and I expect that. But remembering how desolate I felt last week for her, I'm almost giddy with relief. Please keep telling your story @IslanderGirl62. There are so many who don't realize that the virus may be closer to them than they think.

Re: Getting a Haircut

[ Edited ]

Fortunately I've been cutting and coloring my own hair for years but if I didn't I would never entertain the thought of doing it privately with anyone at least where I live.  Just too risky.  Besides with masks, safety glasses, head coverings, I do not need to be at all concerned with makeup or hair and won't for some time to come. And News Flash: No one cares what you look like.

Even my dog.  I have a neighbor in my building who does grooming housecalls. I've already used her twice before and was very pleased.  It saves me so much money from a regular groomer but I will not risk having her come over.  It's just dumb with what's going on now even if you take precautions. So I bathed and hand cut my long-haired dog myself as best as I could just to keep him from getting matted.

@PamfromCT  Thank you and It bears repeating that droplets are expelled from the nose and mouth during simple talking.  It doesn't take only coughing and sneezing to spread a virus.  And with masks only about 40% effective you don't even want to be near someone if you're wearing masks if you're going to talk to each other.

Wear a mask. Social distance. Be part of the solution - not part of the problem.

I read another of your posts @kivah where you claimed you were dissatisfied with all the news reports. Then you went on to say that people were selfish. Clearly, you need to turn the news back on or at least read about this deadly virus. You won't much care what your hair looks like if you aren't around to look at it. Sigh.

You're braver than I.  Glad you like your cut.

How come we're allowed to shop in big box stores; go to the bank, etc.???? I heard on the news that u could shop for alcohol and lottery tickets (the state loves to make money).

@kivah, at most of my area banks, only the drive-thru is open.  If you need something more personal than that, you have to call to make an appointment.

And you can social distance in a big box store, etc.

If this woman is working out of her house when salons are closed, she is violating the shelter at home order.  Not only that, she very well may be violating other state cosmetology laws for having a salon in her home that probably hasn't been inspected, etc.

I texted my hairdresser because I had an appt. on the 8th.  She said she was not allowed to work until the health department said it was ok. We have been under stay at home orders since March 16.

@RoughDraft  Evidently hair stylists, tattoo artists, nail technicians and barbers all have 6' long arms in Georgia as our dimwit governor has given the green light for them to open as of 4/24. My grey roots will soon be down to my ears but I will not make an appointment before mid May at the earliest.

I totally agree with both of you!

FYI....For those who are in states that are lifting the restrictions soon, bear in mind that the results of this will not be evident until 3-4 weeks according to the CDC and other experts.

If someone came to me with an offer like that I would report them and never darken their door again. Careless.
