I totally agree with you about CVS vs Walgreens, Ive had it with CVS's horrible prescription service..tired of having to go back several times to get my prescriptions! .they would say they were ready, but fact was they needed to call the doctor to renew refill--yet didnt understand why I got a message saying they were ready, a friend got someone else's prescription good thing she happened to look at the bottle carefully----Everyone I know switched from CVS!

Over the years, I've tried aeveral chain pharmacies, none of which was particularly great.
Then I read that Walmart is the largest retailer worldwide and has the best bargaining power with manfacaturers AND pharmaceiutical companies, hence, the best discounts.
There are many countries where the name on the storfront is something else, but it's still Walmart.
I have a couple of friends that their prescription drug plan is through Walmart.....OMG all the problems they've experienced, they cant wait until open enrollment and they can change to a different company!

I have a feeling the OP didn't see the sign that was most likely there.
If customers are coming up for a COVID-19 test, they had to know what to do while getting in line.
When you are on an errand and not used to changes in procedure, she just might have missed it.

@teganslaw, this is strictly a guess but one reason could be that the person to be tested could be positive. Sitting in the car with the windows up, no mask on and presumably the car's air conditioning running circulating the air (and keeping in mind that it has been shown the virus is aerosolized) once the window is open the potentially contaminated air would blast out the window toward the person adminstering the test.

Maybe the Op stayed in the line because there was no way out. Some Pharmacies only have one lane and once you´re in the lane, that´s it.
I would have turn off the ignition, go into the store, get my prescription and go back to my car. maybe by that time there would have have only been one car in front of her. I´ve done that before with my Bank.
I´m sure there are signs posted about Covid testing but she missed seeing them.
Why does the OP think she had to talk throught the thick glass? There is a microphone and the Pharmacist can hear her loud and clear even with a mask.

@cozyseeker wrote:I am so darned mad right now. Went to CVS drive through RX pickup this morning. Three cars in front of me and it took almost half hour for each car. As the car in front of me got to the window I could hear the pharmacist talking for a long time. I watched the guy in the car get out and show ID through the window and then grab what I thought was an RX bag from the drawer.A few minutes later it dawned on me these people were taking a Covid test in the drive-through RX pickup line. I was so furious when I got to the window to just pickup my RX. There was no hand sanitizer available to the people testing, nothing, and they were not wearing masks in their cars. After they tested they put the plastic bag in a box right next to the RX pickup drawer. CVS used to test at the other side of their parking lot and it never occurred to me they would do this in the drive-up.Pharmacist said they do this until 1PM each day and I should plan to come after that for my future RXs.NO warning sign, no hand sanitizer, nothing. I am so afraid I was exposed today as I could not wear my mask to talk to the Pharmacy through the thick glass.
I have done the CVS drive thru test. The bag that you saw contains a saniwipe with detailed instructions when to use it. It took me maybe ten minutes once i got to the window. But some people take longer because they don't follow instructions and they have to start over. Glad you now know the best time to come to pick up your RX.

I call places where I will be going that day and ask what is required and how to proceed. It might take a little time on the phone or online but it's worth it to me. The procedures and"rules" change fairly often due to various safety standards and methods. Asking for and following the current instructions is up to us.

Shoekitty I a glad you said that idk what is going on wit them. I put in refill online, it says being processed i have several refills, so I dont worry then next day it says filled, i even get call. I sent someone to pick it up and they havent even received order to fill not only are lines at least 30 min wait, they are unorganized. Why are they giving flu shots and covid tests in pick up line? So mad. One time I had t travel one hor uto Dr. t pick up hard copy of RX for controlled drug. An hour back. I hand in RX at drive through after waiting 20 mins in sun. I askedto check if thye had it. She checked computer, said yes. She said ready at noon. I came back 3pm, it was not filled because they didnt have the strength. Omg, it is late, and a friday. They found a pharmacy 30 mins away, we had to mad dash, got it filled. Took an hours wait again. Now, i call them on phone, talk to oharmacy and give them the third degree.

I'd also be willing to bet she received (at least a few) CVS emails informing her about the Covid testing.
