I'm ashamed of FL's legislature, constricting food stamps (as they used to be called). 1 in 5 kids are hungry in my state.

That's a lot of Walmart employees losing their benefits then.
If child care subsidies are available there's often a waiting list to get a placement and not enough spots for kids who qualify.

The police union there is in the middle of a salary negotiating process so the ad that the PBA has taken out focused on the wife of a policer officer with 3 kids who is having trouble making ends meet. Since this is part of the campaign to get public support for their cause, it is probably embellished a little.
I don't doubt that there are police officers all over this country who are underpaid. But I also believe that if you can't afford three kids then you shouldn't have three. Unfortunately we live in a society that says I should get paid more because I can't afford my lifestyle. When I grew up you figured out how much money you were making and that determined what your lifestyle would be until you were able to improve your income level.

That's not the message of the article or the ad.
You also left out the part about the Mayor agreeing to raise their pay and then doing nothing about it.
I don't consider three kids a lot. The Duggers were a lot. Five or more might be a lot, but three is pretty common.

I looked up how much their salaries might be and this is what I came up with:

With all of the waste ,graft and greed in this country, if my tax dollars go toward feeding the children of people who through bad luck or poor life decisions can' do it themselves, so be it. No one in this country should go hungry.

I know that this case is different, but I personally know someone who is disabled (truly, she would to work)
that collects $90 a month in food stamps for herself.
$90 a month. On top of a very low amount of disability.
Also, I just wanted to add that the thing to remember, when judging someone in a grocery store-- is you do not know why they have food stamps.

I'm sorry but when did everyone become so judgemntal
Has anyone walked in the shoes of the families on SNAP.
This is economy is not better. Hard working people cannot make ends meet. Wages are low. I'm not talking about fast food jobs. Jobs in the health inusurance industry are paying wages that I was making 30 years ago when I started. No one can survive on 13.00 an hour. With some of these positions a bachelors degree is required. And they still want to pay these low wages.
I know this as I was laid off December 2015. When I went to the interviews and was told the salary I thought this is what I made in 1983.
Everything has increased except wages.
I'm lucky I found a job. Not making near what I made. But I have never lived above my means.
But I will not and can not judge those on any kind of assistance. I do not know how they got there. I do not know their story. I'm not so gullible to think there are not some sho abuse it. Of course there are. But in today's world there are a lot of hard working people who need it. And they will be affected by this. And that makes me sad. No one in this country should be homeless or without food.

@scotnovel ..... I totally agree with you .... every time I see the ad with the wife of the police officer with 3 kids my blood pressure hits the roof!!! .... they should have stopped at 1 kid & they would be able to make ends meet!!! ... she probably will have more kids & expect the rest of us to pay for them ... these people make me sick!!!!
Do you know what a police officer makes in NYC?
Those men and women put their lives on the line for you and you want to pay them pauper rates and dictate how many kids they should have?
That's terrible, imo.

@HappyDaze wrote:welfare benefits, including food stamps, were never meant to be long-term support. A person who is not disabled and has no family members to support should be able to find a job and support themselves but I know many people that won't accept jobs they think are below them. I am NOT saying all are this way but I do personally know of several. I am sorry but no job should be beneath you if you don't have a job and are relying on others to support you. I have had to work krap jobs I didn't like to make ends meet. You do what you have to do to survive and support yourself. My twenty something year old nephew is on food stamps and there is no reason he can't work more than he does but he doesn't because he thinks why should he if he gets the equivalent in food stamps without having to. To me, it is a source of pride to take care of yourself but I think pride in being able to support yourself and being self-sufficienct is lost on many people these days.
Sorry if this seems harsh but I've been there so I know how hard it is but I also know how there are always ways to get off the support, even if that means working two or three jobs or taking classes/training so you can get paid more in your current job.
I couldn't agree with you more. And it isn't harsh, it is reality. None of these programs are 'free' and someone has to pay for them.
I have worked in a field where I saw so many young, healthy, and capable people who did whatever it took to say in the system, and it is a crime.
I have a friend who's 19 year old son lives with her, and he has never had a job. Nothing. Never mowed a lawn or shoveled snow, or flipped a burger, and he just got a medical card. Not a thing wrong with him but lazy. You have to wonder, who really in need and unable to provide for themselves is now scr3w3d because he is taking the benefits.

Are you surprised? Take your neighbor times millions doing the same thing. Cards work for cash in an ATM in a gentleman's club.
