I use FB. I don’t post anything on the Internet that I wouldn’t want the world to know about. Posting here is certainly NOT more private than posting on Facebook.

The issue with FB in case anyone is interested is a company was allowed by Mr Z to do a poll but a colleague of theirs mined data from the friends of those who voluntarily took part in that poll.  That is the issue.

Data from millions of people (around 50 million) were mined and not asked if that was okay.

The people who participated in the poll gave their permission NOT their friends.

That is not anything like the forums on qvc.

Qvc has said they don't sell our email and they've never given me reason to feel uneasy.  Also, qvc doesn't have the email of my friends.  Qvc has no way to mine data from my friends.

qvc is on all of the social media platforms. people here have even said that they began getting messages from facebook messenger regarding orders. they can easily look at your pages depending on how tight your security is on those pages.

i have no doubt that big companies can mine data.....including QURATE RETAIL GROUP.

if anyone wants to review the privacy policies, here is the link.

I belong to Facebook but very rarely get on it. I didn’t know Mark was in hiding but then again I don’t watch the news.

@OKPrincess

They were saying that "tongue in cheek," and so was I.  He was trying to compose his statement and wanted it to be acceptable, I'm sure.  Unless it is proven that he was part of anything untoward, I have nothing against MZ.

Some of our law makers, political web sites and cable pundits have referred to Mark Zuckerberg as being in hiding.  @LilacTree didn’t just coin that description herself.

I’m not sure how he can sleep at night knowing children are being bullied on FB.  I was so tired of the news feed on the right side of the page.  I was just on there to see pics of my grandchildren.

Facebook is not the police and what may be bullying to some is not to others. There is a fine line here about one's rights to free speech.

I deleted my account years. Got tired of people posting everything they did that day. If I want to talk to people and tell them something I just call them.

Although they have no security or privacy there is 14 detailed steps on how to delete your account.  They do NOT make it easy!

Mark Z is laughing all the way to the bank $$$$$

@Abrowneyegirl

Are you kidding?  I heard it said only a day or so ago that not only is he a multi-billionaire, but he is the "most powerful man in the world" and that includes everyone, presidents, dictators . . . everyone.

No I am NOT kidding!  He IS laughing all the way to the bank with the billions of dollars he made from a social media platform because folks have a need to post every ridiculous facet of their life online.

The people you know and the people that you decided to have as FB friends may need to post every ridiculous facet of their life online, but that's certainly not the case for everyone on FB.  It's a generalization without any validity.

You see the posts of people that you yourself have chosen.  If you find their posts shalllow or uninteresting, your complaint is really with them, not with FB.  FB is not responsible for what your friends post.

Choosing the right kind of people - those who are interesting, don't over-share, etc. -makes all the difference.   My family and friends use FB in an entirely different way than you've described, and my experience is not at all the same as yours.
