Dumb question-what is the difference between streaming and recording? I don't get it. I can watch a recording whenever I want so why would I stream it??

after reading this thread, i must be one of the few around here who actually has no desire to dump cable! it is just so convenient for me.
i like xfinity and have had it for a very long time now. i like the ease of a voice remote, love the selection of channels, i like having the phone support if anything goes wrong, plus it is bundled with my internet and my phones.

Add me to your "few". Although I don't have cable, I have satellite. But I'm happy with it and don't intend to change. For my wants and needs, it works.
Do I find it expensive? Yes, but I won't spend money of many of the things others feel are necessary to them. I'd rather spend that money on my satellite service.
To each his own. 🤷♀️

I love Directv STREAM. It's like I never 'cut the cable'. The best part is the Gemini stream device w/remote control. Works just like any other cable remote where you can surf and select channels directly instead of scrolling through a guide which is also there but I like to just hit 275 and that takes me directly to Qvc. You can add apps to Gemini also. I added Prime Music and Video plus DogTV.

Directv STREAM has an app you download on your smart TV. You don't need the Gemini streaming device to watch it that way but the Gemini makes it easier to surf, record and get to other apps you might have. You can also sign in to your Directv account online (computer) and watch it that way also.
This is the Directv STREAM app icon:

@sunshine45 - you're not alone. I am happy as a clam with Comcast cable.

I don't watch very many channels, nat geo wild, tvland, food network, smithsonian, cnn.
I have heard youtube tv is a good option?
We have bundled our alarm, internet and landline with xfinity so we will have to find other arrangements for those of course.
We dumped cable awhile ago and use the Roku stick but I have to warn you about youtube tv. My husband made the mistake of joining using two different emails because he was unsure if one was accepted. We cancelled both accounts when they continued billing us over many months. We had to use the credit card company to get them to stop. Finally they got the message that we were cancelling and actually did it. Please don't get involved with youtube and their free trial period. They can't take no for an answer.

@raspberrygal I know 2 separate people who had your same experience with youtube tv accounts. One of them involved legal intervention to drop the service.
