@RoughDraft wrote:@Coastalcarolina Could it be that you were on the brink of teenhood and might have enjoyed spending your time with friends doing "teen things?"
Very well could be!

Been several times. I'm not sure how cast members waving at you with big smiles couldn't make you feel happy for at least a moment. The spectacle of it is more than a little awe inspiring, especially the electric parade and light shows.
Disney is definitely for the kids. I prefer Epcot for a more adult experience. I also love Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.
In my opinion, Disney has it all over Universal Studios although those parks have their good points too.

I've never felt the urge to go to DisneyWorld, but I'm sure they won't miss my dollars. I'm sure the stockholders are laughing all the way to the bank.

@Coastalcarolina - I've been 4 times. The latest two times I have been lucky enough to get a special deal and DD and I went to the wine and food festival in the fall. We go for the food - and the wine!
We stay at the most affordable place on the park, and I can guarantee you we still stay in luxury!
We allow ourselves one special meal while we're there, then we snack at the food festival, or eat at Disney Springs, usually splitting something.
We don't plan anything, which is unusual because most people do , but we just do what we feel like. We usually spend some time at Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom, and of course Epcot (my favorite). We see the fireworks at all three parks. THEN we go on some rides, late at night. We seldom have a wait. Obviously we don't get going super early in the morning!
The one thing we always say we'll do, and never do, is allow ourselves one day to relax at the resort and pool.
We haven't been able to go as a family since DS was 5, and we went with friends. DS went during high school with the school traveling chorus. They gave a concert there. He has no desire to go now. But DD loves it! She also went during high school. In addition to going with me, she goes with friends, but not THAT often. She has always loved anything Disney!
I've met some really nice people down there. It's always been a lot of fun!
(DH has no desire to go back either! He doesn't consider it a vacation- LOL!)

It is a magical place. I've done three trips there and one to Disneyland. I think you have to use your head and not overextend yourself or the kids. Nothing is perfect but it is a very happy place.

DD chaperoned a HS Band trip last spring and had a wonderful time. She relived the rides and atmosphere she experienced as a child and a teen. She even bought herself sequin ears LOL

@Coastalcarolina What was at DW is no longer at DW, sadly.
But when it was, the place has the magic you bring to it yourself.
When my kids were small, our first family visit (DD-5, DS-3) in July (!) it was HOT and their little faces were red the first day, and not from the sun. I could relax because I knew if I lost a kid, they could shut down the entire place and single file everyone out. Relaxing with kids that age other places was hard to come by.
We did lunch at Cinderella castle. Prior to lunch, we got in line to see, hug, and get an autograph from Cinderella. My daughter and I stood in line. DH kept my son with him, but DS insisted he be included. I had no idea he even understood what was going on, but he wanted to see Cinderella also, to the point of stamping his little foot to show his dismay. Even though he was not in line, he was allowed to participate when DD did, and it was cute and heartwarming.Cinderella paid him special attention. So did Mary Poppins at the Grand Floridian when we went there for a character breakfast.
So many other experiences like that. Too many to list, in our over 30 years of going. Seeing DW through the eyes of a small child is a gift IMO that comes once or twice.
We visited other places, many beaches in Florida, The Grand Canyon and Arizona. Mostly DW though because that is where I wanted to find my own magic.

To see smiles of my children's and later my grandchildren is priceless.
When Cinderella or Belle gives a genuine hug, it is truly magic.
