I didn't get to Disney until I was 21 years old. We went for our honeymoon and had a wonderful experience. We took the kids in 1990 when they were 7 and 5, it was a magical experience. We went again when they were in middle school ( early teens), then the last time as adults took them to Universal Studios. Each time was a different experience and great fun! I feel fortunate that we went when the world was a better place. I think sadly, the magic these days may be fading away.....

Disney has been one of my very favorite destinations for as long as I can remember. . . even though we were once stuck in "It's a Small World" for nearly an hour! I've been there 30 some times but have not been back for several years. My first trip there we paid $48 (with tax) for a 3 day entrance pass!!!! We had coupons for A, B, C rides...LOL!!!
When you visit try to see it through a child's eyes and you will have a great experience!

Your post reminded me of my encounter with a rather 'suggestive' Donald on my first trip to Disneyland many years ago. He was hanging out with Goofy and the whole experience still brings a smile to my face. It was hysterical, given that the characters aren't allowed to speak.
I have to say that I've never run into another Donald quite like that one!
I need to check to see if I saved those photos...😂

I got married at WDW. Ceremony at the wedding pavilion. Reception at a hall type place with a buffet that the chef said "too much food" when he saw our menu. Dessert party in Epcot (Italy) with fireworks. Photo session in front of Cinderella's castle. I remember when we arrived at Epcot. Me, husband and all our guests. Parade was finishing up so we were ushered to the end of the parade route and followed that all the way to Italy. The people/crowds lining the parade route was cheering for us and yelling congratulations. That's the WDW I remember. We are DVC Members and have continued to visit WDW and DL for years but I have to say with some sadness that the magic has lessened. Even with DVC, the cost is insane. Magical express, free fast pass, free magic band (certain colors and styles)...gone. Extra Magic hours mostly for guests who stay Deluxe, Genie+ fast pass system is per day per person on a mutli teir level(weekends and holidays costing more). Same with their park tickets and you still need a park reservation so just because you have a park ticket doesn't mean you get in. Park hopping doesn't start till 2 p.m. I was just on a Disney forum this morning. A family posted that a family of 4 purcchased park tickets for 5 days (probably park hoppers) and it cost $4500.

Disney World is rite of passage for those who can afford it. I didn't go until my kids were old enough to really experience it. I certainly was not taking toddlers. We took our girls and my nephew several times. The loved it. Every time. I never really liked Disney. Except for the beaches, I never cared for Orlando. Last Disney trip was 4 years ago. My great niece was 7. She wants to go again in February, school vacation. My grandchildren will be 7 so perfect time for them to go. I'm not sure we will go. It's super expensive, the parks apparently are untidy and equipment and ride malfunctions and closings are a problem. Hubby said perhaps Universal with just one day at Disney. I'm letting him research that. We went to Myrtle Beach two years ago, a whole bunch of us, all age groups and we had a blast. We have cousins who are late 60ish and they go to Disney World every other year. Even if it's just the two of them. And she uses a cane so I can't see how that works. I think some people just the the atmosphere, the characters, the $16 drinks and $22 hot dogs.

My hubs would gripe to no end over that for sure. He will pay for better food, but not a hot dog...Oh my!

At one time, not sure about now, Disney had lockers and you could take your own food and drinks.
We did that several times when the kids were younger.
We are about an hour away!

My former in-laws were employed by a contractor (Pan Am) of Disney so we were able to visit in 1972-73 right before the grand opening at Disney World. It was truly magical. Clean and beautiful. No Epcot back then. It is so much bigger now. Some of the rides are no longer there and have been replaced with others. We stayed at the Contemporary Resort, one of only two there back then.Polynesian was the other one. It was the first monorail I had ever been on. Everything seems futuristic in the early 70's....now it's commonplace. It was so unique was truly the "wow" factor everywhere you looked. We had no kids back then. Have been about every three years or so since then.....first with kids, now with grandkids. We went one time a few years ago by ourselves. Bored to tears after a few hours. Had to go looking for the nightlife...and we found it.
Disneyland needs a big facelift and can't compare to DW in my opinion.
