We have a kitchen aid dishwasher. It is an old push button version. We have loved it and replaced racks etc.

Now the door isn't working properly and the springs are broken. We have decided to replace it.

I am hoping you can all chime in and give your opinions. The good the bad and the Ugly.

hennypenny, I just wanted to say I loved your headline.  It made me

I have a nice one I never use. I prefer to wash by hand.

I have a BOSCH and love it. Whatever you do, don't go with a cheap builder grade dishwasher or any other appliance. They're the cheapest model and don't perform as well as BOSCH or other high-end appliances.

I upgraded from the builder model that came with the house a few years ago. My old one was soooo noisy I could not stand it! One of the features I looked for was the decibel level.

I upgraded to a Kenmore and this one is so quiet I can't even tell it is running. I also wanted a stainless interior.

I would recommend getting one that is as quiet as possible and then the features that suit you best.

Another vote for Bosch.  Steel interior, tall tub.  Whisper quiet.  I have to go into the kitchen to check that it is on.  Mine is ten years old and still going strong.  Very little service.  LM

I chose a Kenmore Elite Ultraclean 2 years ago and have been happy with it. It runs silently.

I have had KitchenAid dishwashers the past few I've gotten. My last one broke after one short year. I decided to try a brand I've never had before in any appliance. I got a Kenmore Elite. Their best model, all the bells and whistles. I HATE Kenmore brand. No, mine is certainly not the quietest dishwasher I've ever had. But this is the best this brand can do. Very disappointing. It doesn't even include all the gadgets inside that I had with my KitchenAids. I thought I would give Kenmore a chance and I have and I'm done. No more Kenmore for me.

I guess  I am an old fuddy duddy. I wash dishes by hand and have no use for a dishwasher.

Dishwashers use less hot water, get dishes cleaner and are better for the environment.

I lived in an apartment and didn't have one for a long time either - now I can't live without mine!

When I bought my 2nd house 15 years there wasn't any so they had to cut a hole.  The place where I went said the GE was very quiet which it is-can't  even know when it is going and the den is right next to the kitchen. Couldn't live without one. At the other house there wasn't one so when dh went to a scout outing one weekend I had Sears deliver one which he had to cut a hole to put it in since older house never had a place for them.

I plan to take all your info and head out to other stores tomorrow.

When mr henny and I started to date I was in my early thirties and had never used a dishwasher. My hands looked like an old lady and he felt sorry for me so went and bought and installed a dishwasher as a gift. His mother helped him select and surprise me.--- What mr henny now knows, but didn't then is that by the time I was ten my hands were old looking. Heredity. lol

LOVE my Bosch..I have owned many brands, but never knew how great a dishwasher could be until I got this Bosch 2 years ago..

You dont have to get the most expensive model- Frequently Lowe's has deals on Bosch which include free haul away and  a rebate on installation, or even FREE installation!

And quiet!? Yep, you have  a red light that shines on the floor or you would barely know it was on!
