If I understand it correctly everything on Facebook can be set to private. No one will see your posts if you set them to private. Same with photos..

I do not put my personal information on my fb account.  My fb photo is a photo of a green M&M (I love M&M's). I don't post personal photos, except a few of my dog.  I don't put what town I live in, what I do, any of the information in the "about" section.  I have been on FB for about 10 years and have never had a problem.  There is nothing on my account that would be of use to anyone.  People who post photos on FB when they are away on vacation are plain stupid.  Post them when you return. Like others said, your FB account is what you make it.  I also make mine private so only my friends can see.  I am surprised at the number of people who keep their accounts public for anyone to see, even people they don't know.

@SunValley

I read and post on newsfeed too.  Mostly political because we can’t do that here.

I'll go days without making a comment or post of my own.

I don't do those "I bet I won't get one like or share" things either.

I also won't forward things that say "So-and-so is missing!" or So-and-so is dangerous!" Forward to all of your friends!

Nope.

Not gonna do it.

It just reminds me of the old-fashioned chain letters that we used to get in our snail mail, where you put your name to the bottom of the list, and mail a dollar to everyone that is on the list, and if you broke the chain, dire things would happen to you.

All of your information on Facebook is available to anyone who wants to advertise on there as well as app developers. Bad actors, corporate and otherwise, then combine that data with credit info and consumer databases related to you to develop a freakishly accurate profile for you.

And anyone from any country with any intentions can be a Facebook advertiser. We are not protected.

The info Facebook tracks and provides includes private messages as well as your phone activity even when the Facebook app is not open. Your personal health, mental wellbeing, private issues, relationships, and secrets are all out on the open market associated with your name, address, birthdate, and as much of your social security number as can be obtained or extrapolated.

New laws protecting us need to be written and enforced. Facebook certainly doesn't care what happens to us. We are the product, fed to their clients: the advertisers.

I read yesterday an article listing apps that should be removed from our devices because of malware and other dangers.  Most of them were games and other apps I have never heard of.

One was huge though.  It was highly recommended that we remove Facebook in its entirety, saving whatever we wanted to keep to the cloud or another storage facility first.

Would anyone here do that? I‘m thinking about it but I’m not sure how to go about it. I know one can temporarily shut it down, but delete it entirely . . . Is that possible?

It’s easy to delete the app but I have no idea how to save everything to the cloud. You could save each post as screenshots and keep them in iCloud photos or in a file. To delete the app, just hold down your finger over the icon on the screen. When it starts moving, press delete. You can also unsubscribe from inside the app. I think you have to go to your profupile to find where you can unsubscribe.

@Anonymous032819 The posts that bet they won't get one share...they win, in my case.  I can't get past those needy ones fast enough!

No.  I wouldn't even think of deleting FB.  That's how my family and friends and now even professional contacts communicate and share information.  My brother's step daughter had her baby last week and that's where the announcement and pictures were posted.  There's a private group where we can all post our congratulations.  Does FB have issues?  Sure but that just means we all have to be smart about it and really know how to use FB.  Surprisingly, many people don't.

Thing is, no matter how "tight" one has their security settings, if someone wanted to find out something, anything about you, they will.

i have been using facebook for over maybe 12 years now.

i have it for personal use and for work use.

i initially got to keep an extra eye on my children and their friends.

i dont use it on my phone. i do use it on my computer and on my tablet.

no issues for me.

it is a useful tool for business and an excellent way to keep in touch with family and friends around the world. i also help run some facebook groups.

not "scared" and not giving it up anytime soon.
