No I do not care for it and I also do not answer my door if I do not feel doing that as well.

I must say we don't get Drop Ins very often. When my husband and I both worked we never seemed to be in our house for long periods of time. So if anyone tried to "drop in" chances were we were not home. I was working 2 jobs for years so I would leave at 7 AM and get home after midnight sometimes 2 AM.

But I must say when we wanted to adopt a collie from a rescue group. It was a whole different scenario. The President of the collie rescue group of course wanted to see our house and yard and fencing. As well he should. He wanted to make sure that if he placed a collie with us, the dog would have a comfortable environment. So he stopped by when it fit his schedule.

He brought one of his collies too. Which was just fine. It was so funny. The dog checked out every square inch of the house. I suspect that is why he picked that dog to bring with him. The President also did a review. But his dog seemed to approve so we were accepted.

The President just happened to drop in the day after we picked up the dog from the Vet. And he was always welcome to drop in anytime.

Except for my son's friends who were always welcome, I can't say we have people just dropping in.

My husband tells me about his drop in aunt and family. When he was a child they would come by an dinner time. They expected a meal. They did this several times until his dad suggested they go to a restaurant and pay for their separate families. No more drop in dinner guests.

That's kind of funny! What characters. What did your husband think about them when he was a little boy?

Growing up we did not think dropping in on someone was rude, or did we consider it rude when some one "stopped by".  It was normal back then, at least in my area.

I dont understand why anyone would think friends dropping in would be rude.

Growing up we didn't have cell phones though we did have house phones.

Why???  Let's see.... maybe:

I just don't feel good for whatever reason and I'm not up for entertaining.  I have a headache and need to put a smile on my face since you came over.

I didn't sleep well the night before and I was going to take a nap.

I look like ******...to some people it's fine to them to look like they were doing manual labor with messy hair, needing a shower or no makeup but I prefer to look presentable when a friend, relative or neighbor stops by.

Maybe I'm in the middle of a home project like painting a room.

I don't have anything to offer as far as refreshments....to some people it's important to be able to offer something.

Maybe I just finished exercising and was just about to step into the shower.

Maybe I was about to leave to go run errands or do something with someone else.

Maybe I would really like to see you but I can't because I do have other plans....how easy it would be to pick up a phone and call!!!!....it is RUDE to assume that one can just drop by unannounced.

ETA: that said I'm okay if my kids stop by but they can still (and they do) call first

@BoopOMatic His mom had six six siblings and this aunt was his least favorite. He remembers this aunt not letting the kids into her house for a drink of water. She told them to drink from the water hose. He and his brothers liked the two boy cousins well enough.

The only drop in people I ever get are my children and that's fine but I would not appreciate anyone else just coming by without notice!

@haddon9 .............thats your take and excuses.  Drop in's (not sales people) are always welcome at my house.

This is the last I am posting about this.  I definitely do not have to justify myself to anyone on these boards.

When I was little, we dropped-in on family and friends, and were dropped-in on.

That's when most ladies were SAHM and didn't work outside the home, so it was normal. Landlines only.

Things have changed since then, it's a different time.

I don't even like phone calls, much less drop-ins. if a text is possible that's my preffered communication. Don't judge me ! Smiley Very Happy

I don't like talking on the phone, either.
