i gave up watching the show a few weeks ago, after doing a search as to whether hes a fraud ..there are many opinions, some do go on to say he's a fraud beholden to vitamin/herb sellers.

i also realized i was buying too many herbs, teas, spices etc..the last one i bought was royal camu.. trying to keep up on what to buy next made me realize i need to stop watching.. i also found the games he plays with audience people seem phony and rehearsed..(my opinion)

i tune in occasionally but do NOT watch his show every day..

When his show first started, one of my sisters told me she couldn't decide if she liked it or not. I'm thinking the same thing. Sometimes I get useful info from his shows, & have gotten some good recipes. I agree that some of the games & visual aids are a bit much. My conclusion is: if a program has something I'm specifically interested in, I'll watch that part; otherwise, i have something else to do.

I think his medical practice is legitimate; after all he is on staff at a major New York hospital and is still a practicing heart surgeon. However, with that being said I think his show is tilted towards entertainment. Yes, he does have some very sound nuggets of truth that come out, but he also has to keep the ratings up. I'm not home to watch him, but a few times I have caught a snipet of the show and was pretty much not interested. It seems he latches on to every "it" thing out there for diet and health and all of a sudden he's promoting it. He is of Eastern decent and does tend to look outside the box of Western medicine for alternative therapy and answers and for that I do commend him. There is no way the Western Hemisphere has the market cornered on "right".

Let me give you an example of what I thought was a glaring example of him just promoting to promote. The segment I happend to catch was about Meratrim, which incidentally was a TSV not too long ago. He said he had given the supplement to several test subjects and asked them to walk every day for 30 min. and also eat a 2000 calorie a day diet and every one of them lost weight. Well no kidding! The legit way to do that study is to do it double blind, so that neither the researcer nor the participants know if they are taking a the actual drug or a placebo until the data from both groups of participants is fully analyzed. That way researches don't inadvertantly convolute the data to give them the results they were looking to achieve. The man has hundreds of publications to his name and also some patents, there is NO way he would have overlooked that obvious flaw in the study. So I think he's going in part for the ratings when it comes to all the stuff he ends up backing.

Dr Oz is a legitimate physician, Harvard pre-med and University of Pennsylvania Medical School, can't get much better than that. I believe He specializes in heart transplants at Columbia Pres in NYC . But I agree he has become too commercialized, I do think he is a good teacher and can communicate well with the average audience. 5 days a week is too frequent imo, perhaps just 2 days per week with pertinent topics and guests would be sufficient.

Ditto to all the previous posts. He is another prodige of Oprah who also launched Dr. Phil. He is a top-rated, highly educated heart specialist, although I wonder now how he can devote much time to his practice. I know that he does surgery on Thursdays, but what about his office hours? That being said, I find his shows sometimes interesting but often confusing since he seems to contradict himself as he is pushing various "remedies, products," etc etc. One cannot possibly use or try every product he features - you really have to pick and choose. I have, though, purchased his new magazine "Good Life". Found it to be interesting with some good articles and information.

If I needed a heart surgeon, I'd have Dr. Oz on my list of possibilities.

When I need other medical knowledge, I use his show the same way I'd use any medical show (The Doctors, all the news shows doctors reporting on etc.) - I learn of the EXISTENCE of ideas and products that are different from what I already knew and that can become a starting point for further research. I don't rush out to buy and use.

I do trust any of this information more than I trust anonymous medical posts whether here or elsewhere because they come through companies that are subject to major lawsuits if they're challenged, but just opening my head and my pocketbook because something's on OZ or Oprah? Cashmere, maybe, but not drug products.

I have only started watching this show in the last couple of weeks, and several segments have been very informative. I do think Dr. Oz tries to present all medical topics into as basic and informative a presentation as possible, with a touch of entertainment to better hold your attention. I have enjoyed what I've watched so far.

No Doctor can be knowledgeable on everything, so he has a specialty, for Dr. Oz its the heart, I think if I ever needed a heart surgeon he would be at the top of my list, his TV show is to educate, entertain and bring on products that are new, I don't get the opinion he is endorsing any of them that's up too you, my Doctor says none of the supplements do anything but take your money, you have to watch what you eat, practice control and above all exercise.
