Wouldn't it be funny if a mod came along and removed your OP because it was "inappropriate"?  :-D

"Back to work at the bank" ....

although for the 2nd word, the stroke is long like a "D" not "T", but

regardless, makes little sense unless the writer worked at a bank.

Let us know what you find out!

Re: ** DOES ANYONE KNOW SHORTHAND? **

Thanks to all!!  Yes it does make sense......in a way.  My mom (the one who wrote this) began working at the bank when she was sixteen.  She retired (forced out) when she was 70.  She took a brief time out when my sister and I were teenagers.  She felt it was more important to keep an eye on girls with boyfriends LOL.  Anyway, the note is dated 1968.  I would have been 15.  I wonder if this is when she returned to the bank???  It is fuzzy to my sister and I, and alas, my mom is no longer with us......dad either Smiley Sad.  No one to ask anymore.

BTW my parents lived to be 87 and 84, respectively.  I MISS them everyday and there is SO much I still want to ask and tell them.

Thanks again!

(I thought for sure it said "I love you")

@SaRina  At first I hesitated to post this for that reason LOL, but I couldn't imagine my mom doing that.

That's the first thing that I thought of, too.

I taught myself Speed Writing.  That's when my handwriting became sloppy looking.

Re: ** DOES ANYONE KNOW SHORTHAND? **

One other thing about shorthand.  My mom would write shorthand with her finger if we were sitting down, say at a table, while we were talking.  She would write grocery lists in shorthand, too.  I always thought it was pretty and wished I would have learned it.

Do you do that, too, or have you let it go?

Re: ** DOES ANYONE KNOW SHORTHAND? **

My shorthand days are long behind me, sadly.  However, after reading what posters said who can still read shorthand, I agree with the interpretations of "back to work at the bank".  I'm really impressed with those who knew!!!

Re: ** DOES ANYONE KNOW SHORTHAND? **

A   l-o-o-o ng   time for most/ many of us.

Still does not make sense, but could it be:

back due note at the bank

??

have trouble with the third word because  the first stroke  of the third word could be an "s"  or a "stray or extra" stroke.

Appears the writer might have been making notes just for themselves as a reminder.

But admit  -- I know nothing  And me memory is not that great.

Re: ** DOES ANYONE KNOW SHORTHAND? **

I knew Gregg over forty years ago and came across my "Diary" for that year.  Have no clue what I wrote in that darn thing and I'm not letting anyone "read" it for me.  LOL

I'm also a lefty and shorthand is hard for lefties.  Speed writing was much easier.  Problem is, can't read that mess anymore either. Smiley Happy
