As old as I am never used it. Never knew it. But am interested in what it said. Thanks for bringing back memories. My mom used to write shorthand as did my aunts. All gone now.

In a way, the words that you thought the note conveyed could be contrued as such.
Your mom returned to work to give you and your sister "those extra things" that you needed as a teenager and beyond ....to me, that is "love."

I concur with "Back to work at the bank". I still use shorthand in notes to myself, when making my gift lists and don't want anyone to know what they're getting - I even think in shorthand. The symbols come easier to me than the written word.

I excelled at shorthand in high school and used shorthand in every job I had after graduation.
Back to work at the bank makes sense, if the person who wrote it was known to stray from their teachings and write in versions they could remember. I have done that as well when taking dictation.
However, using the strokes I was taught, this phrase says "back, to do, of course, at the, bank", which makes no sense. Based on the inconsistency of the strokes in the first and last words, I do feel the writer had their own version of writing that was easy for them to remember.

Do you do that, too, or have you let it go?
I still use it. Like @pommom I write gift lists so no one knows what it says. If I'm writing a note or letter and I want to organize my thoughts, I'll write it in shorthand first. I don't know if I'm still writing it 100%, but I know what I'm saying lol

LOL. I still do that. I loved shorthand. Still do.

I agree with "back to work at the bank". I don't know about anyone else, but that's exactly how I would write"work". R and K. JMO

Based on the shorthand that I took (many years ago)....
1) back
2) to do (could also be "to")
3) of your
4) with the
5) bank

A short version of shorthand was offered as an elective when I was in high school - so many years ago!! Had to pass a speed - correct signage test to get a grade!! Have to say, it really was an asset in taking class notes in college! I do not use it much now. But still find myself writing some common words down in shorthand when at meetings or making lists!!

My Mom took it in college back in the early 60's and saved her books and steno pads. I tried to teach myself as a young girl in elementary but it was just too hard. Nice to see the characters in the photo after so many years. My guess it was probably someones boss' lunch order for that Oct. day.
